Problem using Mojeek in Pale Moon

Post by miroR » 2025-09-22, 19:27

Remaining with Pale Moon.
It's my first attempt to use Mojeek in Pale Moon.

It failed because, pasting what they said:

Code: Select all

403 - Forbidden

They do look solid, and I know I have issues, difficult to prove, with my provider, so they are probably right.

Anyway, I'm using Pale Moon anywhere I can, because I trust the devs. Firefox that I also have to use since, apparently, ControlPanel for my websites at my hoster (vankina2-10.com exdeo.com and the one next), or https://www.domene.hr where I prolong my croatiafidelis.hr lease require one of the "big" browsers.

In Rumble, I noticed trouble with Firefox, and good behavior of Pale Moon for uploading videos. (But I can watch videos in Pale Moon on Rumble.)

Regarding my inability to search in Mojeek, I'll try to upload a short video, 2.5M, 1m 20s where it is clearly seen, that the search was:

Code: Select all

whistleblowers researchers for Meta "Senate Judiciary Committee hearing" video
and that they pronto showed the 403 page.

Maybe someone will have a good idea how to handle this _network_ issue...

Screen_250922_2017_gdv.mp4
That's just part of some 44m screencast and corresponding network trace.

Originally Screen_250922_2017_gdv.webm, but on this forum WEBM appears not to be supported.
I copied it over wih FFmpeg into MP4 container like this:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i Screen_250922_2017_gdv.webm -c copy Screen_250922_2017_gdv.mp4
Just if someone has issues playing it, I can do a full conversion.

I's getting late and I have other work, so I may, and may not be able to reply soon, if there are any follow-ups here.
EDIT: I forgot to say, no audio, just screencast.

And Mojeek seems to be the best option, currently. Just:
How about onion location? Does it have one, anybody knows?

I have no issues searching for this in Mojeek.

You should also really split this off (or rather ask/wait for a moderator to do so) within its own proper thread, where you detail your setup and include troubleshooting information, etc.

Well, if you would actually read and take the action suggested you may have some luck getting this resolved:
If you are seeing this in error please contact us.
So, contact Mojeek and let them know that your IP seems to be blocked. Be descriptive, let them know you are on DSL on a dynamic IP etc. so they know the IP range they seem to have blocked is a dynamic pool of residential addresses.

Can you try without the double-quotes? I actually get a 403 too whenever I try an exact search with double-quotes. I probably should've reported it to Mojeek way back then but I always forget...

Thanks, moderators, for splitting this off.
And thanks everybody for useful suggestions.
I'll esp. try and do what the 403 page suggested, and be descriptive as Moonchild recommends.
Just I work all the more slowly, I'm nearly septagenarian.
BTW, just tried:
this literal string:

Code: Select all

whistleblowers researchers for Meta "Senate Judiciary Committee hearing" video
gets me the 403 page, as shown last night.
But this string w/o quotes as jobbautista9 suggested:

Code: Select all

whistleblowers researchers for Meta Senate Judiciary Committee hearing video
gets me a normal listing...

I'll try and contact them and, now that it's reduced what the cause of the issue may be, ask them, and also point them here.
This may very well be a bug of theirs.

It's not much work to paste what I submitted:
Pls. see:
Problem using Mojeek in Pale Moon
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32745
It's all there, with a video that tells even more:
download/file.php?id=20269
In short, after I remove the quotes, and the search becomes:
whistleblowers researchers for Meta Senate Judiciary Committee hearing video, I get a normal full listing from Mojeek.
A bug of yours?
Something in my browser?
Something in my network (it's the biggest provider in Croatia, T-com)?
Something else?
Regards!
And I got:
