Videos no longer play on PM 33.8.0

Post by Ander » 2025-07-01, 21:59

Operating system: Linux
Browser version: 33.8.0
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 64bit

I was previously unable to play anything unless i had installed ffmpeg-compat-57, i thought PM was holding back the version for whatever reason, but today i saw in the changelog support for libavcodec < 58 was removed.
Since 33.8.0, i can't get videos to play with either version (latest libavcodec 61) or the old one.
so far i've tried:
- removing ffmpeg-compat-57 so only the latest version was available -> still a black screen
- using a new profile -> also black screen
- LD_PRELOAD="/lib/libavcodec.so.61.19.101" -> segmentation fault when loading a video

the only other versions of ffmpeg-compat on the AUR are 54 and 55, so i guess those aren't supported either. What is the required version? are there any other libraries i need? shouldn't it work with latest ffmpeg? (version n7.1.1, libavcodec 61.19.101)

We're still working on ffmpeg 7.0 compatibility. Our libavcodec compat does not yet extend to 61, but we do support 60. If there's a compat version available in AUR for 60, then you should be able to restore playback with that until we have 61 support.
