Spicy take:
I think it's fine to have competing "standards". Interoperability is largely a low level issue most people should not care about, leave it to a group os specialists and usevwhat they provide. Almost all issues are in this layer and simply because everybody thinks their own spin is the one true way, instead of accepting plurality.
