Moderator note: Generic discussion split off to its own thread.

All this generic discussion aside we don't know what user @coltson's hardware and software are. I could provide them with my private 33.9.0 GTK3 build if needed, should work in Ubuntu 18.04/Mint 19.x and similar. There's been no change whatsoever to the code, and mozconfig is pretty much standard. That should help for the moment, but for the future... :? (And I still have to build 33.9.0.1 when I could afford to close everything, as it needs more RAM than is currently free)

So in the end, its a choice between building it from source, which besides requiring to use this weird mozconfig stuff, that I never used before (instead good & old configure, in which I am sure could reduce the number of indirect libs required), it will require a nearly infinite amount of time, nearly infinite amount of ram (which may break the building process?) and likely massive amounts of HD space.

OR

To build a newer gcc from source (which also requires massive amount of ram, cpu and disk), a new glibc (decent amount of time, may break the system when installing), new pango and glib (decent amount of time), all its dependencies, and pray that none of these shows any trouble during the building stage. Possibly have to rebuild Gtk after all that with the newer pango, glib and their indirect dependencies (which increases a lot chance something to broke)

and the veredit is... none! Perhaps when I have more free time or if not, or some time in future, when Firefox drops support o my current set of libs.

Well, if you were to tell us your hardware and OS details we might provide some real help.

In the new topic split from here I already mentioned a couple PPAs where one can find already built new GCC versions for older Linux versions. You wouldn't have to build it from source yourself unless your OS is older than the compatible ones (Ubuntu Xenial is the oldest I believe) or has a completely different base than Debian/Ubuntu.
In the same topic you will find my own version of the .mozconfig file, which is not such a monster if all the commented out options were to be removed; after all they are there only as a guide for different OS versions and/or configurations.

For the hardware configuration of my machine (also mentioned there) building Pale Moon currently takes about three hours, maybe less. I failed to check how much additional space the building process takes. The sources themselves take about 2GB of HDD space, which shouldn't be too much according to nowadays standards. Mind you I didn't have as much free space either until I bought an external HDD. It does have to be formatted with a Linux file system though (ext4 would do); earlier I had tried with a NTFS HDD and the hardlinks wouldn't work, building failed.

About 8GB of RAM are enough if nothing else heavy is running and the threads are limited. If swap is available it should help when necessary.

Careful though, 4chan has some interesting rumors about it. If they are true rumors, you should not want to get too involved.

That would be me though.

Everything you post or will probably ever post on the internet was and will probably be collected by various agencies(CIA, NSA etc.) somehow

Anyhow, the issue persists
https://sys.4chan.org/captcha
It gives me the tickbox and I click it but it fails and then it loops
This happened before too, and usually in the second attempt at getting the tickbox it would get through the captcha, but now even the 2nd attempt doesn't seem to work
I find myself resorting to using Chropera
I don't post on 4chan that often these days, but it's still an annoying issue

I'm not seeing any issues with the captchas at the moment, either.
