PM crash twice in 20 minutes
Pale Moon has crashed on me twice in the space of 20 minutes. Reports from Nirsoft's AppCrashView are attached, as is the Troubleshooting Information. I had about 15 tabs open. I was browsing the "front page" of theage.com.au at the time of both crashes. In both cases, as I was scrolling through the page, PM failed to respond, said so after a few seconds, and then the window closed.
This is a new machine for me (2 weeks), so there is a certain measure of feeling my way. However, I have had no other problems with it .. so far.
I'm not really expecting a magic solution, it's more that I'm posting here for developers' information/research purposes.

Re: PM crash twice in 20 minutes
I'll just note that "amdxx64.dll" looks to have to do with AMD Radeon video drivers.
(Now, after that I don't know, but) maybe a video driver update, or disabling video related prefs in PM (of which I'm not sure just which, offhand).

In the meantime...
Tools | Preferences | Advanced (tab), General ---> Hardware Acceleration
> [uncheck] Use hardware acceleration
Restart PM, & see if the crashes subside.

Re: PM crash twice in 20 minutes
For sake of ease:
(first time in my life I actually see anyone using a Radeon VII)
And yes, both crashes occur in the video driver. It's unlikely we can do much about that as it would be a bug in the driver. Perhaps you should report this to AMD, instead.
We could, possibly, have a bit closer look by you providing the relevant "appcrashview" output (or send in the raw crash reports that are listed in your crash info under "Report File Path").

Re: PM crash twice in 20 minutes
Thank you both for the suggestions.
I should add that when I used a clean profile, I was unable to get PM to crash.
Do you really think that they would say anything other than: "use Chrome, or Edge, or a proper[sic] browser"? [Rhetorical question]
Off-topic:
A matter of economic necessity. I do not want to know now why I shouldn't have done so. It's too late.
I made the presumption that what I had sent were the raw crash reports, and didn't check them. (I should have remembered that presumption is the mother and father of all ... foul-ups.) Full - I hope - reports attached.
I have done so. No repeat yet.

Conspicuous by its mention, wasn't it? The drivers are all up to date according to AMD's own utility.

Re: PM crash twice in 20 minutes
Not as rhetorical as you may think. No application should cause a crash in a video driver. If that happens then that crash could occur using any application, Pale Moon is merely exposing the issue. AMD would be well-advised to investigate.
Off-topic:
I've looked at the full crash reports and it's pretty clear nothing untoward is happening, and this is a straight-up driver crash, so at most we can work around the problem on the application side but AMD has to solve it.It was merely an observation. I wasn't saying you shouldn't have bought it. It does, by implication, mean that we can't really reproduce your hardware environment if it was an issue in Pale Moon.
As for why your clean profile didn't exhibit this behaviour, I don't know. But that does make it an intermittent issue in the driver (harder to troubleshoot for the driver vendor) and should be mentioned if reported.

Re: PM crash twice in 20 minutes
They won't say anything(which is actual bummer), but they may fix the issue. I've had several issues in games and applications fixed by sending bugreports from Adrenaline control panel bug report tool. Even trough VII is afaik eol, they do occasionally fix issues with GCN GPUs.
No offense, but people usually prefer to whine on forums or reddit than do that(what supplies developers with potentially useful info)

That's good to know, and makes it worthwhile - just - to send in a bug report. I have done so. And was going to anyway - they do make that easy with their Bug Report Tool.
