Help please [400 Bad Request]

Unread post by dtoxic » 2024-10-18, 18:16

Windows 10:
33.4.0.1:
64-bit browser:
https://duckduckgo.com:
Browser theme (if not default):
Installed add-ons:
Installed plugins: (about:plugins):

If possible, please include the output of help->troubleshooting information (as text):
**PASTE troubleshooting information here**
I have DuckDuckGo set up so it opens links in a new tab, every time i click on any link i get a "400 Bad Request" in the new tab and a warning in the Error Console, right clicking on the link and selecting "open in new tab" works just fine
anyone has an idea what this could be? this started happening maybe a day or two ago,and this is only happening with DuckDuckGo, i tried Bing No problem,Google No Problem, every other search engine results work just fine
is there anything i can do on my end or is this on theirs.

It's a DDG issue.
Before the browser navigates to the actual site, DDG does a redirect to itself for some reason or another and that's where the 400 originates.
It doesn't happen when opening a site on a new tab with the context menu or the middle mouse button because the redirect is not performed but you are sent straight to the website.

This must be a recent thing because it wasn't happening before I saw this post.

I sent them the following. Hope they get it fixed soon.
There is a problem with DDG when used with the Pale Moon browser (I'm not sure if it is a problem on all browsers). When doing a search, and then left-clicking on any result, a "400 Bad Request" page displays. The problem is discussed here at the Pale Moon forum: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31724
It has something to do with DDG doing a redirect to itself. Opening the link in a new tab is a word-around.

And I just noticed I have a misspelling in what I sent them. Oops.

I have been experiencing this issue as well.

I hope that they fix it.

Yeah, it began a couple of days ago. I could answer with details because I was caught in this too and spent some time investigating, especially as other engines had no issue at all.

I've reported this to my contacts at DDG as well, since it impacts our partnership if our default search is broken.

Thanks for this. But for those who clear their cookies after every session (not me) it will have to be reset on every visit.

It's working just fine for me, and I also have it set to open in a new tab...works as expected no problems.
I don't have DDG "Installed" though, I just use it as any other search engine.

Yeah, the problem occurs when (left) clicking the link. Opening in a new tab works fine, as as per vannilla's post.

But that's exactly what I do, left click the link, not right click (menu) open in new tab.
Edit: Never mind, missed an earlier reply.

I don't see this issue myself; maybe it's regional? My contacts have passed the inquiry on to their tech team to look into.

Yes it's on by default, and I double-checked it was on.
