Sound distortion embedded videos in "Native Mode"

Post by Walter Dnes » 2024-10-09, 22:26

Operating system: Gentoo linux 64 bit
Browser version: 33.4.0.1
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 64
Problem URL: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/dona ... rcna174632
Browser theme (if not default):
Installed add-ons:
Installed plugins: (about:plugins):

This hit me on my custom build. I downloaded and extracted the latest official linux build and duplicated the problem to make this an "official" bug. This appears to be the same issue as in viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17572 from 7 years ago. Audio is bad when...

Tools ==> Preferences ==> Advanced ==> General ==> User Agent Mode ==> Native

...is selected. Changing to "Firefox Compatibility" mode rsults in proper sound.

Nothing we can help. The website obviously uses some kind of incompatible format when using fallback for "unknown" browsers. Can only guess what it picks instead...
Workaround: set a site-specific user agent override. Solution: website should recognise Pale Moon natively or use a generally supported fallback format.
