Pale Moon 8.0 freezes

Unread post by rabnbeinn » 2011-11-18, 20:49

Love Palemoon  but since I've updated to V.8 I'm getting the 'not responding' problem!! On several occasions it has froze the whole comp with Ctrl/Alt/Delete failing to work also, so a manual shut down is required. This is not so good!

Well, the "not responding problem" doesn't really tell me much ;)
The whole computer freezing is not easy for a browser to do -- I have a feeling this may be due to graphics acceleration. Can you please provide more info about your system and browser? Copying/pasting the Troubleshooting information from Pale Moon would help a lot, here.

Thanks for the quick response, I think you may be right about the graphics acceleration!!! running an old system here but any help would be great.

Yes, looks like you are using old graphics drivers that are not supported.
Please visit the Intel website to get the latest drivers for your system.

If that still doesn't fix your issues, you may have to disable hardware acceleration in the Pale Moon options.
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> tab General -> "Use hardware acceleration where available"

PS: If possible, consider getting a dedicated graphics card - the lower-end ATI cards like HD5450 etc. are inexpensive and would give you a lot better overall PC performance.

Thanks again moonchild,

I've updated the driver so hopefully this solves the problem :D

As much as I would love to install a more dedicated graphics card, finances just wont allow it at the moment lol

Thanks again

Sorry for the double post but I've just noticed there is also an update for 'Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (Chipset INF)', should I also update this to help with my problem?

Certainly couldn't hurt to update your chipset drivers as well - Especially when you experienced hard lockups of your PC.

The HD 5450, which is a great budget card is around 30-50 dollars American, so don't sweat it.
Also, update everything, Windows Updates and everything in the like.
