Images & videos showing despite permissions set to block them

I have permissions set to block images and video for the following urls but nothing is being blocked. Even with PM Reader extension installed and its button for blocking images clicked the images and videos still appear.

Using eMatrix I was able to block all "Media", but what it all came down to in the end was blocking 'static01.nytimes.com' Script...14 of them,
But that removed any Photo and Video from appearing/playing.

In general, it's fine to allow subdomains and CDNs of a given site (the domain name should tell you what it is) because these days every damn website uses multiple different owned domains just to serve page content, so blocking all 3rd party content to get rid of ads will only break things. If you don't recognize a 3rd party domain, search for its name and its official website should tell you what it is. Most of the time some sort of analytics crap that can be easily blacklisted. The filter lists for eMatrix/uBlock Origin are better at blocking subdomains that are only used for ads or analytics, so better to rely on them than experiment yourself.
