I don't know since which version of Palemoon it began, but currently when I open new tab with animated gif from rule34.xxx site, it is loaded in paused state.
No matter how long you wait expecting it to fully load, it won't start playing by itself.
What makes it start playing, for example, is right-click on it and selecting menu View Image Info.
It seems like it happens when this is first animated gif displayed after browser start.
Here's a link as reference (not explicit, but your employer may not like you watching it in the workhours anyway)
https://rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=6748830
What's strange, on gelbooru.com all animated gifs are playing from the start.
If you can't recreate issue, try again until you succeed. I believe in you.

Edit: basically I don't know how it happens, I just open a lot of tabs and yet some, then I start to check and closing them and sooner or later I meet frozen animated gif if one of tabs contained it.

As a start, you've got 3 "blockers" (blocking extensions) in there.
So restart into Safe Mode & test.

(No issues with that gif on my end.)

Same. Animation works fine here as well.

Bad advice - if you have an adblocker, you should look at its log (that's what it exists for) to see what was blocked, and then unblock or make an exception for that in case it was causing a problem. Using safe mode or keeping a separate fresh profile (easier, since you can run it separately without leaving your main one) comes later.

Well intended advice from the perspective of an advanced user.
Only problem, most users are on a (sub)average level when it comes to basic troubleshooting.
Reading a simple log file can be an overwhelming task. Therefore staring with the most simple task might be more effective for them.

Besides, a fresh profile helps also in case of problems caused by modified internal default prefs.
An example (not relevant in this case) from the troubleshooting information posted by the OP:

Code: Select all

general.useragent.site_specific_overrides: false

At the very least it will tell them whether the problem is with their extension/configuration setup or with the website using an unsupported feature if it fails on a fresh profile as well. Thereby saving time for them as well those who are trying to help them ;)

For the record I see no issues with animated gifs on that site either, what little i could be bothered to poke around that kind of subject matter.

Yes, it happens in Safe Mode too.

I performed search for images tagged 'animated' on rule.xxx

Then I started to right-click->"open in New tab" those which are not mp4/webm (not having a blue frame).

I have opened ~30-35 (didn't count) new tabs.

After all of them finished loading (loading icon disappeared on tab) I began to check them.

Six (6) of those which were animated gifs displayed in full size (those displayed as resized images are not supposed to show animation until opened via "Original image" link) was in paused state.

As before, they started to animate after right click->"View image info".

So, dear guru of the coding, tell the mere mortal where can I see debug info for particular tab explaining what caused thread responsible for gif animation to fail?

Thank you very much.

I think I saw this once, on another site. I got the impression that in fact some of the pictures are not fully loaded (and the animation does not start). Maybe due to lack of memory or due to some other limitations (for example, something related to parallel loading or cache size, etc.). It didn't bother me.
