Re: "connection refused" when update prompt is selected
see if you can browse to https://aus.palemoon.org/ (it should return an update xml with an empty updates field)

Re: "connection refused" when update prompt is selected
I navigated to the URL. This is the message at the top of the page: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."
On the page itself it has: <updates/>
On the page itself it has: <updates/>
Re: "connection refused" when update prompt is selected
OK well that means you should have no issue connecting to the update server as well from the internal updater (it uses the same mechanism and same host).
So, it's not directly clear what goes wrong.
To troubleshoot, go into about:config, and set app.update.log to true.
Next open the "Browser console" under devtools, hit the little trash can top left to clear the output, and then go to the menu and select Help -> Check for updates...
This will log the update process in detail in the browser console. Please post that log in your reply.

Re: "connection refused" when update prompt is selected
OK, so, you're able to get the manifest indicating the download, but you're not able to download the actual update archive from the very same server...
Are you using any network filtering/anti-virus/internet security package that might cause issues? Are you sandboxing the browser?
What happens if you attempt to download the .mar directly in the browser?

Re: "connection refused" when update prompt is selected
I am in a remote area and connect to the internet via satellite. That. I haven't changed my OS status in a while and never had any problems prior to this simply selecting the palemoon update alert dialog when prompted. I downloaded the latest version for linux today and am using 32.1.1 right now. I suspect I will need to manually update until something changes. Thanks much for your help.

Okay...
Well be aware the latest version is 32.2.0 as of now. So you're behind a little.

Re: "connection refused" when update prompt is selected
Moonchild, I am sincerely grateful for your help. Every issue I've ever had with Pale Moon eventually has been resolved and it's because of folks like you. Any time I get the prompt I will certainly update in what ever manner I can. Thanks again and all the best.
