Zoom level indicator?

Unread post by Viper_63 » 2022-12-06, 20:33

Hi, I hope this is the right forum to ask this. I ahve searched for similar issues, but I have been unable to find any related threads.

I have recently switched from Basilisk to Pale Moon and I am wondeirng if there is any way to display the current zoom level somewhere on the UI. Basilisk handily displays the current zoom level in the URL bar, but I have been unable to find similar functionality in Pale Moon.

I have it at the right of the status bar, but perhaps this is due to the addon NoSquint

It is most probably due to that add-on. I have a n% label on my status bar now that that particular add-on is installed and used.

It's sure due to NoSquint add-on (nice add-on Lucio Chiappetti showed me). If you click on it, the NoSquint settings will appear. You can also customize the UI accordingly by default: under "customize" you will find "Zoom Controls" that can be placed in different places on the UI. Unfortunately, these "Zoom Controls" only show a "+" and "-" but no zoomlevel.

I use the "Zoom Page" add-on created by "DW-dev". The "legacy" add-on can be found in the "legacycollector.org.tar" archive at page:

https://archive.org/details/Firefox_Legacy_Collector_Dump

The archive is very large, it has 14.2 GB:
01.png
The latest version is "Zoom Page 15.8". The link for this version is:

https://ia903100.us.archive.org/view_archive.php?archive=/16/items/Firefox_Legacy_Collector_Dump/legacycollector.org.tar&file=srv/www/legacycollector/public_html/firefox-addons/14382/zoom-page-15.8.xpi

This link only extracts the "zoom-page-15.8.xpi" file from the "legacycollector.org.tar" archive, so it takes a while for the download to start (about 30 seconds).

On me, the add-on looks like this (with Options changed by me):

Hi, thanks for all the helpful suggestions, but none of these actually do what I am really looking for, which is place a unobstrusive zoom indicator in the url bar which only appears if the zoom actually changes. NoSquint is probably the easiest since it's actually still available, so I am using that for now.

BTW, what actually happened to CAA? I haven't used it quite some time, but none of the links seem to work. Did the hoster shut down?

I made an add-on that does exactly this.

Page without zoom :

Try it and see if it's ok for you. You can download it here:

Seems down for me as well... :(
Redirects to caa.zetamex.com (5.9.89.91) and fails.

Well, I'm downloading the torrent of Firefox_Legacy_Collector_Dump now (15.3GB...).

See issue on github: Server error at zetamex.com

I just tested CAA again - seems to be online again. I could download!

If it would help people, I could just make a live copy of the site as-archived, so you don't have to download the whole thing.

Yes, that would help a lot.

EDIT: Although it's online again.

EDIT: Although it's online again.
CAA is not the same as the Legacy Collector site which was started as an independent mirror by someone else. So it might be useful to have that up as a live archive somewhere anyway.

Off-topic:
Classic Add-ons Archive (CAA) and Firefox_Legacy_Collector_Dump

In my humble opinion, the CAA and Firefox_Legacy_Collector_Dump topic is worth appearing as its own topic in the Goanna Platform\Add-ons section.
Maybe the posts from viewtopic.php?p=234729#p234674 on could be moved to there.
Then we wouldn't have to constantly use the off-topic tag as a makeshift.

Unfortunately I've just encountered this bug, meaning that NoSquint is practically useless for me since it breaks video controls.

@Moonchild
Any hope of us getting an unobtrusive built-in zoom indicator in hte URL-bar?

Thank you for this valuable but annoying information.
I tested it and I can confirm the bug.
For zoom level indicator I will try now the add-on zoom_alert_v1 from tellu-white
I was so happy about the addon NoSquint with which I could make some pages more visible and at the same time had a zoom level indicator - and now this
fu🤮🤢😡ng 🐄💩 bug

As a workaround for that NoSquint bug, you can:

1. Go to about:config
2. Locate media.play-stand-alone
3. Set it to false

This way, Pale Moon will no longer play videos directly. Your default video player will.

I have modified the add-on so that the display is now in the URL Bar. In addition, the display updates when you change the zoom with the "mouse wheel" and "shortcut keys", and clicking the button resets the page zoom to "default" (100%).

Page with zoom greater than 100% :

Page with zoom less than 100% :
02.png
Click on Button to Reset Page Zoom (to "default") :

Page with default zoom (after Click on Button) :

Try it and see if it's ok for you. You can download it here (Display Page Zoom in URL Bar v2.0):

Would you want your add-on listed on the Pale Moon Add-ons Site via the self-service panel ?
This would give more confidence to anyone who wants to use it, thus contributing to its spread  .

btw: I couldn't download it from mediafire.com because the query "I'm not a robot" appeared and then my antivirus program blocked the query page

I'm assuming you are using the Windows operating system. If so, then turn off your AV program, do the download and when finished, turn your AV back on.

I definitely won't do that :!:
This antivirus program has already blocked sites a few times, which contamination later turned out to be true.
And the strange thing is that I now suddenly discovered in the browser's download window that the download had started. So the "I'm not a robot" query obviously had nothing to do with the download option.
I have never trusted mediafire.com and have always thought it possible that it could be contaminated with bits of malware.
Although the download still worked in the end, I think it would be better if this add-on could be seen in https://addons.palemoon.org.
