"Preferences-Content-Fonts & Colors-Advanced"-window a bit too small.

Unread post by 00Septimus » 2022-11-29, 15:22

When I was looking for an add-on for setting the font color, I accidentally came across the said window that is a bit too small. The 3 buttons at the bottom line are slightly cut off.
But that's just a not so serious tiny blemish - kind of like the squinting of a secret-service-wolf ;)

Curious!
It seems your font rendering is slightly different, resulting in one word wrapping that doesn't do so for me. I guess we can blame Intel's drivers for another quirk :D

Easy enough to fix though. Thanks for reporting.

Due to your mention of "font rendering is slightly different" I looked in the Windows 10 display settings. The recommended setting there is 125%.
If I change it to 100%, the "Preferences-Content-Fonts & Colors-Advanced"-window appears as it should - but: everything, absolutely everything, appears on the PC much too small - unbearable :sick:.
Strangely, custom settings between 100 and 125% make no change. not even after a restart :crazy:.

I'm pleased that you want to fix it :thumbup:.

My solution to buttons beiing cut off the bottom of dialog boxes was to add a line of code to dialog.css in every third-party theme I use, but the same could probably be done in userChrome.css. My solution:

Code: Select all

.dialog-button {
margin-bottom: 10px;
}

Thanks for the bait :D.

I picked up the track, sniffing around a little on the internet, found the goody and then inserted the following in the userChrome.css:

Code: Select all

.dialog-button {margin-bottom: 15px !important;}
Hmm, yummy:

A tale as old as time. Some day maybe OSes will get scaling right. I assume 8K displays will hurry things along there.

What do you mean by "...get scaling right."?
Is 100% or 125% the right scale. The recommended scaling is 125%, what I think is rightly so. If I switch to (not recommended) 100%, then

The solution should actually be that when scaling, everything, i.e. fonts, images and especially such special settings-windows are scaled accordingly (enlarged or reduced). :idea:

You answered yourself. That is what "get scaling right" means.
For a long time, OSs have been unable to handle different DPI despite having a setting to do so.
Things are improving as time goes on, but windows being unable to fit text just because the DPI are different than the default value is a problem that's been around for decades.
