Thank you. That's exactly the sort of answer I hoped for. It is nearly impossible to decode those configuration names or discern their meaning without a guide.

But that change only eliminates the site name in the middle. The two icons, "verified by" and "secure", remain. No search terms I've tried seem to produce anything that looks relevant. Any ideas what key word controls them?

Forum searches using the terms "padlock" and "identity panel" should do the trick. :)
And see FAQ 'IDN and Pale Moon: know your browser': viewtopic.php?f=24&t=15583

Also look at these two much older FAQs... but with caution as neither post has been updated in recent times.

Pale Moon Commander provides GUI access to the display of the padlock (you can move it rather than hiding it entirely, for instance) and lets you toggle the display of the domain (or subdomain). They're under Security > Padlock and Security > SSL, respectively.

Thank you, Blacklab. This is one of the reasons I hate icons. You can't search for a picture and you have to guess what term applies. I hadn't thought of the shape of the picture itself and was trying to describe where it was located or how it was used. And even the locations in an interface, especially one as complex as a browser, are hard to guess the names.

And thank you, RealityRipple. I'll check out that extension. There are so many extensions and their descriptions are so limited in the main index that finding something relevant is like trying to choose a movie on an airplane. The effort takes longer than the flight. I don't find the categories very useful.

PM Commander appears as an additional 'advanced preferences' option in the tools menu after you install it - the options RealityRipple mentioned are in this extension's dialog.

You can always ask in the Addons forum if there's an extension that does what you're looking for, people can recommend them from here as well as legacy XUL extensions available on CAA(you'll have to install it first from here), it provides a searchable archive of around 20k old Firefox XUL extensions.
