Problem with password save after switching from 32bit to 64bit

Unread post by RuudNetherlands » 2022-11-03, 12:56

Operating system: Windows
Browser version:31.3.1
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 64 (was 32)
Problem URL: na
Installed add-ons: Classic password editor 1.1.2
Installed plugins: (about:plugins):VLC 3.0.3.0

Hi,
I made a mistake while installing the PC and installed the 32bit version instead of the 64bit
I used the 32bit version to store login info for about 7 website
Then I uninstalled the 32bit version and installed the 64 bit version.
The 64 bit version does not store passwords from start.

What I tried:
Reinstall 32 bit version: Passwords were there, deleted them all, reinstall 64 bit version: I does store any login info in Saved passwords

I tried things like deleting key3.db, logins.json:
I reset the: signon.importedFromSqlite

No problem, the 64bit version asks me remember login? I choose remember.... Saved passwords stays emtpy
However: when I reinstall the 32 bit version: I can see the login information in saved passwords!
Is there some registry key that I have to change to be able to use the password saving of the 64bit version instead of the now default 32bit?

"key3.db" is the old (unsupported) storage format. So it's possible you installed an old version of the 32-bit one and not a recent one?
Current versions can no longer read the old password db format. To convert from the old to the new format you need to run a version of the browser on your old profile that supports both and will facilitate conversion

Wow, thank you very much for the rapid and helpful response!!
It worked, I previously installed the 28.8.4 browser being just to old to do this conversion.

I uninstalled my 64bit version
Downloaded the 28.17.0 version, unzipped and started it from a folder and yes I could see the credentials.
Reinstalled the 64bit version and now everything is OK.

I guess it was not necessary to uninstall and re-install the 64bit version
But I didn't expect that the 28.17.0 version would be installed in the folder.

Doesn't matter, it works.
Thanks very much
Ruud
