Trying To Block Cookie
I'm trying to block a website from putting a cookie on my machine. I go to Preferences>Privacy, etc. and enter the data. However, when I go to that website, the cookie is placed. As long as I keep the browser open, the block entry remains. When I close the browser and open it back up, the block entry has disappeared. An older version of Waterfox appears to operate the same way. What am I missing here? I searched first but didn't see anything. Thanks.

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
As a first guess (one has to guess because you gave almost no details of what you are doing) I would say that what
you are missing is the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the cookie/data permissions dialog, where you
entered (one guesses) the URL of the website you wanted to block cookies from.

kreemoweet, I didn't give a lot of detail because I think I explained everything sufficiently. And I did say that the block stays in place as long as the browser is not closed, so I did what you said I might be missing. Thanks.

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
Do you clear the Site preference when you close PaleMoon (Settings for Clearing History)?

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
Yes, I do, everything but cookies. When I get a chance I'll play with that and see what happens. Thanks.

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
If you clear site preferences, then you also clear the preference for sites to store/not store cookies. Site preferences are individual choices you make for specific sites, deviating from your global settings.
So what happens is: you set a cookie blocking rule in the browser, but that gets cleared when you clear site preferences, resulting in it being default again next time, which is to allow cookies.
You probably don't want to clear site preferences. That setting improves local access privacy (and does nothing for web privacy) but obviously conflicts with having site-specific choices.

OK, so Moonchild, what do I do? I would say this is your browser, but the behavior seems to come from Firefox. How do I keep the block entry there and make it work? Thanks.

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
Preferences > Privacy > Pale Moon will: "Use Custom Settings" > Clear history when Pale Moon closes > Settings > Data > uncheck "Site Preferences"
Re: Trying To Block Cookie
? The behaviour makes perfect sense. The problem simply seems to be that you're clearing data which you don't seem to understand what it does.
What you want can be achieved by doing what RealityRipple posted above. i.e. keep everything the same but DO NOT clear "Site preferences" on shutdown.

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
All right, Site Preferences is unchecked, but the 'block' entry keeps disappearing, as I mentioned previously. Once, it even said "Allow," not "Block," before it disappeared. Don't think I did that. I'll try playing with it again sometime; right now I need some sleep. "Always use private browsing mode" is unchecked; is this correct?
Edit: Playing with it a little more, it seems like the cookie is being allowed, then deleted when I close the browser (but the 'delete cookie' box is not checked). Deleting is better than nothing, but it's supposed to be blocking creation. Also, again, then the 'block' entry disappears.

Re: Trying To Block Cookie
Perhaps Cookie Exterminator might be helpful. It deletes cookies (and other data objects too) shortly after the last tab which used the cookie is closed. Of course you can manage a list of exceptions to be not deleted. Similar: Crush Those Cookies
Re: Trying To Block Cookie
Thanks for the suggestion, and maybe I'll look into it at some point, but I'd rather not add more software to my system to deal with just one website, and right now I'd prefer that this process work as intended.
