Is there a way to detect CPU hungry tabs?

Unread post by mifritscher » 2022-06-25, 08:30

Operating system: Ubuntu 20.04
Browser version: 31.1
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 64
Problem URL: -
Browser theme (if not default):
Installed add-ons:
Installed plugins: (about:plugins):

Is there a way to detect CPU hungry tabs? I have open 200 tabs, and sometimes, palemoon eats 100% of one core. Sometimes I can nail it down to a specific task, but sometimes it is not really feasible. Is there a way/plugin to get the tabs which the highest cpu usage?

You can try using about:performance.

Hmm, ok, about:peformance does not display useful hints in my case.

But: Can it be that Pale Moon is sometimes waiting in a busy loop when trying to connect to the sever? I'll try to do some experiments here...

Some sites with stupid amounts of JS(youtube, deviantart and likes) can hit recursion depth limit of garbage collector, so it won't be able to clean up after them and will cause cpu and memory load spikes with period of around 30 seconds. Only way to mitigate this after leaving such sites - is restart the browser.

Hmm, I've auto unload activated - and enable JS only on few sites.

In about 50% of the cases, a click on the buttons gc,cc and minimize memory usage" helps btw.
