pale moon icons on 31.0.0

Unread post by Aviation » 2022-05-17, 14:57

Hi,

31.0.0 killed my theme. removed two addons
& strangely, doesn't accept this path anymore:
C:\Program Files\Pale Moon\chrome\icons\default
it would be sad to create a firefox path..

What theme are you using? What two addons were removed?

I had to find the link to Snowflake of Light by MaDonna and it is below.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -of-light/

This theme is "strictly" for Firefox and it cannot be installed on Pale Moon. That is the short of it.

You need to start making clickable links which for the above is:

https://nature.desktopnexus.com/wallpaper/1877822

The above is a Desktop theme/picture which looked quite good on my 27" widescreen monitor. Unless I'm mistaken, this is not a theme for a browser. Of course, I had to scale it down a little from 1920 x 1200 to 1920 x 1080.

You're so right, in may 2022.. after installing palemoon 31.0

it's not working for palemoon "anymore". which is the more appropriate statement. cause the visual issue started on the last update.

Since you state version 31.0 started problems for you for that visual (Snowflake of Light by MaDonna) theme, what version of Pale Moon were you using "before" 31.0 where the Snowflake theme worked in Pale Moon?

You will have to raise the "Max version" in the add-ons "install.rdf" files inside the "*.xpi" for the add-ons not working.
I also had to do so for "restart manager 2.08" along with 5 others.

You will most likely also have to do that for the theme as I had to for my theme.

Also any profile that has been touched by "v30 is most likely corrupted and should be replaced with a new profile.

For me icons are located here:
C:\Program Files\Pale Moon\defaults\icons\default

The 30.0.1 version was recalled since it caused problems. People were told to "not to use it" and revert back to 29.4.6 version. But some people decided not to revert back for various reasons and you are one of those people.

If you did not revert back and used 30.0.1 for "quite some time", you've most likely corrupted your Pale Moon profile and a corrupted profile from 30.0.1 will cause problems in (31.0).

If that is the case, the easiest solution is to make a new profile and see if that fixes your problems in (31.0). But I am going to tell you right now, that Snowflake of Light by MaDonna theme (persona) "never" worked in Pale Moon 29.4.6 or in 30.0.1 because it is for Firefox theme (persona) but also works in Waterfox.

I know because both Firefox and Waterfox, the Snowflake theme (from Mozilla's site) works in both Firefox and Waterfox since I have both of these two browsers as backup browsers to Pale Moon with Waterfox being my primary backup to Pale Moon on all of my four computers (2 desktop towers, 2 laptops).

And I know for a fact the Snowflake theme (persona) works in both Firefox and Waterfox because I just put this theme (persona) on the newest and current versions of both Firefox and Waterfox as an experiment.

And to reiterate, this theme which is found on Desktop Nexus is a Desktop photo/picture theme. It is not meant to be a browser theme (persona).

BTW, the word persona, this was used by Mozilla in their themes category, but some people could not understand what a persona was so Mozilla changed the description of persona to mean "a lightweight theme".

You can quickly try a clean profile as a test, without losing your old profile if backed up first. It surely won't require decades to recreate your profile -or any profile- from scratch.

Restart Manager only requires a version compatibility bump (it works with v31), but the author seems unreachable and the support thread is locked: viewtopic.php?t=22471

So, you want the easiest solution. The easiest solution is to create a new profile.

Creating a new profile "does not delete" the old profile. When creating a new profile, it does not replace the old profile. You'll have two profiles. If the new profile works "without any previous settings carried over from the old profile of 30.0.1", then the old profile from 30.0.1 is the cause of the problem. And then you'll have to delete the old profile.

But it seems if the new profile works without any of your previous settings from decades ago, you will have to figure out which one (or more) of your "decades of old Firefox and Pale Moon settings is causing the problem". Which means you'll have to go through all of your old settings from the old profile "one by one" to find the problem.

Yes, it is a hassle if you want to transfer all of your decades of old settings from Firefox and Pale Moon into 31.0, but what worked back then, does not work now. And this is just a dose of Reality.

Just remember Pale Moon is no longer a rebuild of Firefox. It is a true fork so those old Firefox settings of your's will cause problems also. You just do not want to admit it and want a "quick, easy fix". Well, that is not going to happen.

In closing; make a new profile and if you keep insisting or outright refuse to make a new profile for testing purposes, then between you and me, you are now on your own.

FYI - the caa:list?q=tab+counter (Tab Counter 1.9.9.3 from "Classic Add-ons Archives") works seamlessly just as the former PM Tab Counter add-on had previously.

Hmm, just noticed your post above - so the Pale Moon Tab Counter 1.04 (has been updated and) now works on Pale Moon? (struck from post as I see the specific Tab Counter 1.04 is not available on the Pale Moon add-ons site, however another Tab Counter is now available). I'll just keep using the Tab Counter 1.9.9.3, from CAA, for now as it works exactly like the former PM Tab Counter 1.04.
