Is there a way to make cCleaner not to clear stored passwords?
I asked, they said older PaleMoon(v7x) was compatible but with the changes PM made, it is no more...ron_1 wrote: ↑2022-03-06, 20:22It's the other way around. Pale Moon is up to ver. 29x, maybe you should research what changes they have made in the last decade at least as well..Booty Coon wrote: ↑2022-03-06, 20:42I asked, they said older PaleMoon(v7x) was compatible but with the changes PM made, it is no more...

It is up to the developers of extensions to make sure their extensions are compatible with the browser they extend, not the other way around.

Do they seriously expect their extension written for version 7(!!) from probably 10 or 12 years ago to continue working perfectly?

Problem was i was unable to save passwords due profile's path with special character(even tho i have no special character).
The answer was to only used portable and place Pale Moon in "C".

In hindsight, perhaps I should've ended that sentence as a question: ". No changes in the last dozen years or so in their product could be part of the issue?"
I'm glad that you now seem to have this issue resolved.

Doesn't take a programmer to look at the dates in the Release Notes.

Saved Passwords no longer accesible
Operating system: Win 10
Browser version: 29.4.4
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 32
Problem URL: No passwords saved
Browser theme (if not default): default
Installed add-ons: adblock latitude 5.0.8, addbookmark helper 1.0.10, FEBE 10.4, Pale Moon Commander 3.0.1, password backup tool 1.4.1, reader view 2.2.0, tab counter 1.04, toolbar buttons 1.1.1-signed.1-signed
Installed plugins: (about:plugins): adobe flash 32.0.0.387
In Pref-Security-Saved Passwords there are no entries. I've added a few, then checked and still no saved passwords. There should be dozens.
The logins.json file when opened in notepad seems to have my logins as I recognize the webpages. The passwords are of course encrypted. The uncooperative file is 57kb. I'm not sure if it means anything, but some of the passwords in the uncooperative file are a decade old, so maybe I should've weeded out the old websites.
It was originally date Feb 14, 2022, and I know I added a password or two since then. Now it is dated March 15, perhaps because I added the new profile.
I've done the basic troubleshooting: cleared cache, started in safe mode with suggested resets, made a new profile, all to no effect. Passwords do seem to be saved in the new profile, even after a restart, though it's only a few hours old.
I copied the problem logins.json to the new profile and it's passwords didn't appear in the new profile either, so maybe the file is corrupted.
I've done all I can think of, except maybe try to export my passwords from the other pc and import them to this one, since I'd rather start passwords over than start everything over with a new profile. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. And Thanks for the browser.

You also need to copy the key4.db along with logins.json.greggreen29 wrote: ↑2022-03-15, 20:56I copied the problem logins.json to the new profile and it's passwords didn't appear in the new profile either, so maybe the file is corrupted.
Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
Thanks, I realized that later. It still didn't work.
I tried importing passwords with FEBE and that also didn't work. The current profile is still not saving passwords.
At this point I'll try to reimport items one by one to a new profile and see if I can get passwords transferred from another PC. It's quite an annoyance not to have passwords work.

Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
I'm an issue with the master password as well. When I restart in Safe Mode my master password preference is set and I can see my passwords. Even with all my extensions disabled in normal mode the "Use a master password" box is unchecked and the browser acts like I don't have the master password set.
My saved logins don't work either way, though, even after I view my saved passwords in the preference pane in safe mode (which forces the Master Password prompt to appear to enter the password).

Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
I also tried this.
First, I created a brand new profile and attempted to set the master password. This worked. I then opened Pale Moon with another pre-30.x profile I had that I have never used (no extensions installed) and attempted to set the master password. This failed with "unable to change master password".

Did you update only sporadically and have made large version jumps in the past? Then you may have a problem with incompatible encryption methods that have been migrated across time.asimperson wrote: ↑2022-03-18, 05:40I also tried this.

Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
I'll admit that I don't remember the last time I used that other profile (or what I was attempting to test with it), so it's possible that it missed the migration window mentioned in the article. However, my main everyday profile should have been migrated by one of the versions mentioned previously. Pale Moon has been my everyday browser for at least the past 7 years or so and I upgrade whenever a new version has come out.Moonchild wrote: ↑2022-03-18, 11:03Did you update only sporadically and have made large version jumps in the past? Also, since applying the workaround from the other thread (resetting the privacy.donottrackheader.enabled preference) I now get the master password prompt on startup and password fill-in works correctly when I restart in safe mode.

Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
Please check in about:config if you have a user-set preference called privacy.donottrackheader.enabled
If you do, right-click it, select "reset" and then restart your browser.
There's a code typo in Pale Moon 30.0.0 that causes issues when this preference (no longer in use in this milestone) is set.

Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
I reset the value. I now get prompted for my master password in Safe Mode, so I took the opportunity to reset it there. I did that and it works, and I can now also get usernames and passwords in Safe Mode. However, outside of Safe Mode I still don't get prompted for the master password and it doesn't show up as set. I also disabled my extensions and it doesn't seem to make a difference in normal mode.Moonchild wrote: ↑2022-03-19, 00:31Please check in about:config if you have a user-set preference called privacy.donottrackheader.enabled

I went back into safe mode and unchecked the "Use a master password" box. I then went back to normal mode and I still can't see my passwords, but I can still see them in Safe Mode.

Re: Login Password not saved with latest PaleMoon
Hmmm... I think Roboform has that a bit backwards when they say Version 7. To me, Version 7 would refer to Roboform, not Pale Moon.Booty Coon wrote: ↑2022-03-06, 20:42I asked, they said older PaleMoon(v7x) was compatible but with the changes PM made, it is no more...
I'm not sure if any of this will help or not, but there was a Firefox UXP/XUL extension for Roboform, back in the day before Firefox became a Chrome-clone. I can say that confidently, because I am still running mine and it works perfectly. Now, granted, I am still running Roboform Version 7 - mostly because it was already paid for and I was suspicious that the 'free' update to Version 8 (their first subscription-based version) would eventually lead to no longer owning the software.
My Dad is also using this extension and I think it's still working, even though he did take that free upgrade and now, yes, does have to pay annually for Roboform. I'm not sure which version of Roboform he is on, though.
If you could get a hold of the XPI of the Roboform Toolbar (my version is RoboForm Toolbar for Firefox 7.9.7.5), then you might be able to get Roboform working with Pale Moon. I'm not sure where you could get that, though, and I'm not sure of the legalities of uploading a version of my copy.
If you do manage to find it and get it working, take my advice and do not try to update it! I once tried that with mine and I had to restore my whole C Drive because the update broke the extension and I couldn't get the old version back.
