smart card support (Linux)

Post by Lucio Chiappetti » 2021-11-06, 15:30

I hope this is the correct forum.
I would be interested in buying a smart card reader to access Italian Public Administration sites using either my health card/fiscal code or identity card.
I follow to a note by Moonchild in this off topic thread viewtopic.php?f=66&t=27378

For the record, my Dutch bank uses a smart card reader system in conjunction with the chip on my debit card (as one of the options to log on), and logging in with that works perfectly fine in Pale Moon.
I am finding contradictory statements on the web, there are Regional sites who talk of specific drivers (and give examples only for firefox, I suspect outdated) amd other who say undere Linux OpenSC stuff will be enough (and give apt commands to the proper packages pcscd opensc libnss3-tools). I also looked in my Pale Moon preferences -> advanced -> certificates -> security devices, and I see references to "internal PKCS#11" and "built-in libnssckbi.so".
Any advice about the correct kind of smart card reader ?

Actually the "driver" (the .so library in the security section of the browser) depends on the version of the CNS card. More report on viewtopic.php?f=66&t=27651. Anyhow I am successfully using my CNS with Pale Moon !

Edit: fixed wrong internal link; added checkmark; solution in other link in generic terms (relevant for few people I guess, and anyhow not a Pale Moon problem, it works nicely provided one loads the appropriate .so,

When you solve an issue, please consider marking the topic on the forum solved (checkmark) and making a post how you solved it so others can use that information as well.
