Unread post by Takamoto » 2021-09-05, 14:20

Hi everyone, sorry for the inexperience but I'm new to both linux and pale moon..I'm trying to watch a streaming video but I can't.
He tells me "no compatible source was found for this media".
I'm on puppy linux tahr64-6.0.5
What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You need to have ffmpeg, or at least a version of libavcodec installed.

"Streaming video" is also very vague. PM cannot play copy-protected video, such as that from Netflix, Amazon Prime, or similar stuff. Youtube should not be an issue.

Also alarming, Ubuntu Trusty is 14.04,

I forget when it was discontinued, but I think it was discontinued in 2018?

If my memory serves for anything...

If so, yeah... I second the notion of upgrading to a newer puppy linux, or something updated.

Small note, I was wrong, its 2019, which is still 2 years old.

Your call if you want to stay with it, but I don't recommend it.

older puppies are not always bad..tahrpup is quite old but puppy is very modular and libraries etc can be switched in a short time.
I have 4 pups installed on a usb.Fossapup is the only one which will allow me to run an up to date pale moon.

Browsers are relatively up to date even on older pups.Fossa, xenial and slackpups are all still good choices.

Hmm, well, either way, updated software, as long as it is semi stable is usually better than being on outdated operating system.

I am on a testing version of a distro, but its 80% to stable I think.

There is always a balance between bleeding edge and so stable that its friggin outdated and unsupported, I would say.

But yeah, he should update to something newer. ;)
