Pale Moon portable 29.2.1-x32 refuses to install on Win7-32 Topic is solved

Just after opening the installation exe of Pale Moon 29.2.1-x32 and clicking on "Execute" I got this Windows message 4 or 5 times:

"The version of this file isn't compatible to the running version of Windows. Open the System Information to check if a 32 or 64-bit of the application is required ..." (rough translation)

(No such problem with PM 29.2.0-x32 before)

The same happens to me, Windows-7 32-Bit Professional, with both 32-Bit and 64-Bit 29.2.1 Portable's

Any more details? does it show you -which- file it is complaining about in the dialog?

It appears to be the extraction program itself.

Hmm that is peculiar. Yes I've confirmed the problem in a VM, it seems to be that the SFX module of 7-zip z-standard edition (which is different than the one I previously used) is only 64-bit. I'll have to re-pack it with a usable version. How annoying. This wasn't documented anywhere obvious.

The 32-bit portable binary has been updated. this should work now.

Thanks Moonchild, but the new version 32-bit does not properly "execute" either, with the same message coming up.
It also happened with the 64-bit version on "Execute" (which makes sense on a 32-bit system ).

However I could install it now with opening the archive in 7-Zip and then manually "Extract to..." the specified Pale Moon folder, so Pale Moon 29.2.1-x32 works, but there still seems to be something wrong with the downloaded executable itself.

The binaries from the American and Asian servers are updated and work properly for me now.

But binaries from the European server don't seem to have updated yet. They're identical to the previous binaries.

As I said, I could install v. 29.2.1 portable via "Extract to" in the meantime. Just see it as a bug report.

7-zip z-standard edition

What's that, this, 7-Zip Zstandard Edition?

Seems the 32-bit version creates a 32-bit sfx & the 64-bit version creates a 64-bit sfx (21.02 v1.5.0).
(Can't say if 32-bit created sfx extracts properly on a 32-bit OS?)
(7-zip itself, from 7-zip.org, creates 32-bit sfx regardless, but I guess you're compressing with different codec, hence Zstandard.)

What a bunch of hooah speculation.

I just installed the zstandard version because it supported more compression formats (whether I would use them or not for Pale Moon is irrelevant). And i wasn't aware that it would create 64-bit SFX archives contrary to the "normal" 7-zip of the same version. I guess whomever compiled the zstandard version didn't think of keeping things portable across architectures for self-extractors. It's at least not been documented.
