Hello - I have version 28.14.2 but whenI try to update nothing happens- using the search for updates it says connecting to update server but nothing happens even after about 5 minutes - any reason for this

You seem to be blocking connections to the update server. Check any blocking extensions, firewall settings and/or anti-softwarevirus you have installed.
Did you know that moral outrage triggers the pleasure centers of the brain? It's unlikely you can actually get addicted to outrage, but there is plausible evidence that you can become strongly predisposed to it.

Maybe use Wireshark to sniff what's happening and if packages to the update servers are sent out and replied or not.
The profile picture shows my Maico EC30 E ceiling fan.
