Crash after update add-ons

Unread post by lyceus » 2011-11-06, 05:34

Hi!

This is another bug report for the CSI team (or similar one). Palemoon 7.0.1 crash after you update your add-ons with other tabs opened.

How to replicate the bug.

1. Open at least 2 tabs and load pages.
2. Open in a new tab the add-on tool and update them
3. Restart Palemoon with all tabs opened
4. Palemoon will restart but will refuse to close the add-on tab and some other tabs, then hangs and crash.

Maybe this may be related as how Palemoon or Firefox see the add-on tool. So anybody there had the same trouble?

Specs: Phenom AMD 4 - 8 GB RAM - Win XP SP2 x64 English - Palemoon 7.0.1 x32

I've tried the following to try and reproduce this problem:
  1. Go to AMO and install an outdated version of an add-on that requires updating
  2. Restart as requested
  3. Make sure to have a few tabs with pages loaded
  4. Open the add-ons manager
  5. Select "Check for updates"
  6. Go to "Updates available" page
  7. Click "Install updated" button at the top
  8. Click the "restart now" link
After restart, everything was in order and I did NOT see any strange behavior as indicated.

Please let me know if you used a different way of updating or not.

Also, you might want to try:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
In case that is the problem.

Hrm...

It was the same way, actually I recall that I saw a dialog about a script was too slow for execute but I forgot the full name of it, it said "tab.xxx". I did click on "stop it" and then I had the crash. I didn't have a corrupt localstore btw. None trouble so far, palemoon works fine now after that crash.

Ah, sounds like you stopped part of the actual browser interface because it hung.
That would indeed cause a crash. Since the UI is part JavaScript as well, you can in rare cases get that dialog box - if something takes particularly long or is hung up on waiting for something in the background (like a download or network check).

That happens a lot on You Tube or some sites that are extreme bandwidth hogs. But this is the first time it hangs and crash the browser. Well let's see in future versions how this change for good or bad. ;)
