It seems to have started with the previous version (28.13.0). CPU usage goes to ~50% and stays there for a minute or so. I tried safe mode (didn't help) and a new profile (only a few pages were open, but still had lag when scrolling).

In the list above, I notice the WebGL 2 Driver Renderer shows some errors:

WebGL 2 Driver Renderer: WebGL creation failed: * Error during ANGLE OpenGL init. * Error during ANGLE OpenGL init. * Error during ANGLE OpenGL init. * Error during ANGLE OpenGL init. * Error during ANGLE OpenGL init. * Exhausted GL driver caps.

Could that be the problem?

Thanks.

Operating system: Win7

Installed extensions: see list above
Installed plugins: (about:plugins) Adobe Flash, Google Earth, VLC

You may want to start by not using an almost 10 year old video driver.
Driver Date: 4-19-2011
I know the ATI HD series has limited support and no brand new drivers (because it's old-old) but I'm pretty sure there are a lot newer drivers out there.

Apparently not. AMD's latest is from 2013, part of their "Radeon Software Adrenalin Legacy" package, issued in July of this year, which I installed, but it doesn't seem to help. I still have lag and freeze-ups.

It doesn't seem to be a computer issue. I compared PM with three other browsers: Firefox, Vivaldi, and Brave. In each case, I loaded the front page of the NY Times. I have a 2 min 35 sec video that shows the tests, but I don't see any way to post it. It took PM twice as long before I could scroll freely up and down (an orange arrow next to the cursor shows scrolling attempts).

In the first section, PM loads the top of the page and then stops. You can see the scrollbar on the right is all the way at the bottom, and I'm trying to scroll, without success. Finally, at 20 secs, the rest of the page has loaded and I can scroll down. I scroll down again, but at the bottom, I can't scroll upward. This happens several times, and sometimes the page freezes and the cursor skips instead of scrolling smoothly.

Firefox starts at 00:57. It also doesn't load completely right away, but it's a lot faster than PM. In about 10 secs it's loaded, and I can scroll smoothly.

Vivaldi starts at 1:34. It takes about 12 secs to load and scrolls smoothly.

Brave starts at 2:08. It loads the top part of the page immediately and then takes 10-12 secs to load the rest and scrolls smoothly.

I also tried some conventional browser benchmarks, and PM doesn't rate too badly. But in the real world of actual downloads, it lags, literally and figuratively. What are the other browsers doing that PM isn't, and do you have any plans to do it?

Incidentally, it's not the add-ons. I tried it in safe mode, and it didn't help.

No, it's on many sites. You can try nytimes.com, washingtonpost.com, homedepot.com.

I didn't use the VLC plugin. I used BB Flashback Express to record and Avidemux to edit. Also, as I said at the end, I tried it in safe mode (extensions disabled) and it didn't help.

Well, for Home Depot, it doesn't work well in Pale Moon because of crappy coding:

Doesn't seem to be a problem for the other three.

So? It's still bad coding. You can thank Gooble for this mess.

This would mean the NYT and WaPo are badly coded too. I'm not a perfectionist about coding--I just want the browser to work. It doesn't look like you're one of the developers, and I really don't want to go back and forth about this.

MC, could you give us an idea whether any improvement is in the works? If PM is going to stand on principle and say no site will load promptly unless it's perfectly coded, I'll have to go with another browser, because the lag and freezeups are intolerable.

The NyT and WaPo works fine here. The only Page I have lag (progressive lag) is the damned Facebook. (Btw, I would be very grateful to anyone who would find a solution for this)

So if it's a computer problem, why does it happen with PM and not other browsers?

You mean AMD Catalyst 13.9 https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics ... adeon-3200 ?

You may use AMD Cleanup Utility before install new drivers

No, I mean Radeon Software Adrenalin Legacy, which apparently has the same driver. https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/radeon-software. And I hardly think I need to remove every AMD driver, including "display and audio drivers as well as AMD software components," just to replace a graphics driver. Never needed to do it before and not gonna do it now.

I'd really like to stop haggling over details. Regardless of the driver, the question remains why PM shows this behavior and three other browsers don't.

I wonder! You have too old integrated in motherboard graphics for such epic marketing drivers names :)

It's the same driver, understand? I already have it installed. If you hover over the Download button on the page you linked to, you'll see the package name, which is the one I have installed: 13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql, from 2013.

Please stop. I'm not interested in random guesses. I'd like to hear from one of the developers, preferably MC, as to what might be causing the disparity between PM and the other browsers I tested, and whether anything is planned to eliminate it.

So if you already have installed that please paste your new “troubleshooting information”, not old one

As a developer I am going to tell you to buy a new computer.
How far are you prepared to go? How much are you prepared to risk? How many people are you prepared to sacrifice for victory?
Are you willing to die friendless, alone, deserted by everyone? Because that's what may be required of you in the war that is to come.
