Just curious -- why is it that we all have to presume ALL CAPS translates to specifically "shouting"....
... as opposed to the possibility that the intent of ALL CAPS is simply to apply "emphasis"?
Off-topic:I ask -- because I do use "all caps" at times and my intention is never to be "shouting" at anyone but rather my sincere attention is always to provide "emphasis" to make sure a specific comment is not missed. There is a stark difference in characterizing a persons comments - "shouting" is aggressive behavior directed at "someone" as opposed to "emphasis" which is to help clarify a point. So for others to assume caps are presumably rude (since we all know shouting is typically thought of as rude behavior) this presumption can be in some cases mis-characterizing the intent of all caps. This has always been a personal "pet peeve" of mine because MY INTENT IS to NEVER be SHOUTING --- you see here I'm NOT
(emphasis "not") shouting but rather placing emphasis on the capped words

(I find that in the case of more drawn out verbose posts the absence of "emphasis" (what everyone else wants to call "shouting!") can be problematic which my intention is to avoid this problem on the basis that in my case my critical points do not get lost in all the other comments in a more detailed post....
Notice in all the words expressed above there are essentially only 4 words in all caps -- specifically "MY INTENT IS to NEVER be SHOUTING" (w/ caps) -- this intent is to say (select out) "my intent is.. never.. shouting" -- which is the
crux to my point but could have certainly been lost (absent the "emphasis" by including all caps

.) considering all the other words involved in a more verbose post
(which I've done here for "emphasis" as well).
My interpretation (as always) is that the utilization of all caps by the OP in this case is for "emphasis"
(the "OP" caps is for another purpose since it's tech term using only two characters that need caps in my view - which is something I regularly do for these type references) -- an intent that does not include hostility (that is generally characterized by "shouting at someone") but rather is perhaps a far less innocuous intent --- if we can consider the possibility the all caps intent is merely to imply "emphasis" as opposed to the commonly held presumption that it HAS TO BE "shouting". I've never understood where and why this concept arose regarding the use of all caps which by doing so creates in my view unnecessary animus toward those who use all caps (based on the negative "hostile" connotation the concept of "shouting" creates) when the intent can clearly be far more benign than some might think is the case.
