Its operation costs are covered by the content being problems solved by users for people who pay to have these problems solved... ...human-brain solving is a valuable commodity.
This is a bit confusing. What kind of problems are easy enough for typical Web captcha (matching fruit, vegetables, whatever), yet at the same time complex and valuable enough for people to pay for?

Unless this simple "human-brain solving" is training some sort of junior AI?

Human verification of AI results, human sorting of difficult-to-distinguish-by-computer assets into groups, as you said training of AI, etc.

What do you mean? I just changed it to use hCaptcha instead if the sortables captcha for registration and such.

So none of that is BS, John.
You misinterpreted what I was saying. Way to go chief.

In other news, I contacted a website I use all the time that presents an asinine "BS" ReCaptcha and this was their response:

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback, we consistently use customer feedback to evaluate
our product offering. We will keep this in mind as we make future product decisions.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to re-open this ticket.

I guess that's code for thanks, but no thanks.

Way too much snark there. I'm done.
