I had updated a week ago and want to ask a question here about the difference between the two installs but I don't remember even what major version I was running prior. Is there an update log or something I can reference?

Yes, in the settings pane under Advanced.
This isn't available if you use the Linux repository. Then you have to look in /var/log/apt/ for log files.

Preferences -> advanced -> tab update
There's a button "show update history" if you have used the internal updater to update the browser that shows a log of which version was installed when.
