YouTube now showing me "We’ll stop supporting this browser soon. For the best experience please update your browser" message
maybe this related to YouTube removing old classic layout ? does Palemoon support new YouTube material design ?

One possible reason could be the requirement to comply with the COPPA and state whether your videos are made for kids or not.
I don't get it, why would that affect browser compatibility?

I have a small YT retro gaming channel

When you upload videos to YT, it tells you to go to YT studio, whenever I try to go to that under palemoon, it says that YT studio is not supported. In order to set whether or not the video is intended for kids or not, you have to do it through YT studio. You can still upload the video via Palemoon, but in order to change any of those settings you can't. So I have to do that through another browser.

Ultimately, if Google desperately wants (and will do whatever they can) to strongarm YouTube viewers into using Google Chrome, can Pale Moon actually stand against that?

I hope so, but Google seems bent on killing any and all competition.

dear pale known staff geniuses creators of the best browser on the planet. I'm now getting the warning constantly on YouTube.

Seriously I don't want to use another browser. I fought hard to come to you pale moon. I did my homework I did my research. There must be a way for you to add an update to fix that bad awful Google client… Really Google is a dirty word to me.

This is very upsetting and could possibly throw the entire universe into some kind of irreversible motionless emoticonal imbalance. Please help fix this before it's too late.

You seem to not be aware of who is at fault here. If Google wants to make any non-Chrome based (aside from one knock off to make it appear as if they don't have a practical monopoly) browser unable to access their services, they probably will be able to accomplish that goal irrespective of anything that the Pale Moon team does.

This isn't Moonchild's fault, or NewTobinParadigm's fault, or the add-on team's fault, or anyone else's fault on the Pale Moon end. This is Google's fault. 100%.

Moreover, why are you assuming that this doesn't have a simple enough fix (or stopgap remedy) that will be implemented as soon as the team is aware, prior to Moonchild saying anything? Be patient before you start acting as if that banner means the end of the world.

Greetings. I hope Google isn't going to permanently block Palemoon from accesing youtube. A couple minutes ago the banner mentioned before started to pop-up at the top of the site. From time to time videos stopped working in the past, but that occurrence hasn't happened for a couple months. Really hope it's just some sort of forced to change to the newest layout the other browsers have per default. I honestly don't want to use Chrome just to watch some videos in the future; it's simply not the same.

Thanks coffeebreak. We here just started getting that annoying banner tonight.

I hear what you say… I'm aware of how evil Google is for Years? When they killed The original opera (Which by the way was the best browser on the planet sorry pale moon)and They were notorious for being the creators of all the features we see today… Anyway I'm sure you know the original opera was great until one day people were hitting the update button and wondered what the hell happened… That scam alone shows they don't play fair.Scamming useless creeps

I understand Chrome Used WebKit As the the original rendering engine, but I think they eventually forked it to create the Blink engine; all Chrome variants except iOS now use Blink. I'm not a code writer I just know they're creepy

It sounds like there's no fix ever I'm going to hope that's not true. Somebody has to know something about code to get back at God… Oh by the way did you know that's who Google Thinks they are. Computers are amazing can somebody keep the integrity of pale moon and make their code hack through God so that we can Be free. Anyway thank you for getting back at me. :D

I'm a friend I love everybody here :D

I've heard through the "grapevine" which is "gossip" but sometimes spot on, Google (Alphabet) wants to do away with the classic old YouTube interface. They want users on the new YT interface and this seems like a logical choice since they don't want to keep supporting the classic interface.

I was using YouTube earlier this evening and I'm not seeing any problems (yet) for Pale Moon. But I use the "new" YouTube interface and not the "classic" old YouTube interface. Since I use the new YT interface, I don't use the default user agent setting for YT which is incorporated into Pale Moon. I use a different user agent code for both Linux (and Windows 7). And these codes are listed on "Page 1" of this topic thread in my post there.

For those of you having problems with YT, have you tried using those two code settings on Page 1 of this topic thread? If not, try them. If they don't work for you, then you can always go back to the default settings.

Ron_1 :D :D hey I took your advice and copied and pasted the small code (Into dashboard my filters)you gave me and presto the banner disappeared. I'm actually shocked that I knew how to do that I hardly ever go anywhere near my add block which is probably the same as yours U block. Anyway that was really cool it did disappear PS I noticed that coffeebreak might be the person to think as well. I personally came back to make sure I never missed him. Thank you both very much.

Hi Nightwing… I understand exactly your post but if you go up and see my screenshot you can see I'm using classic with an extension to create the Black look I love. No offense to pale moon but YouTube settings never hold even using classic and definitely don't hold their settings with their whatever advanced I've tried… Savings select cookies whatever I thought I could. I'm used to it on classic mode at least my extension works reliably so it's black every time you open it but resolution settings play videos continuously they never hold their settings. I remember using Firefox now a while back but it held the settings. Anyway I'm not complaining.

But I will hold onto my classic because I like it until I can't then I will use the advanced and take what I get. But the big thing is I never want to let go of pale moon… Pale moon you guys can you hear me I love your browser and I know everyone else does too. To go off and be a communist using Opera Firefox Or chrome Just makes me sad to say the least. I want to stay with pale moon. So I will as long as I can and I know I have my friends here :D I'll stay with you as long as I can. We are the greatest

PS somebody should ask me where I got that extension and you might see a few others. Firefox does not offer them to pale moon they don't even offer what I have to Firefox anymore… But I Ripped out all the extensions from Firefox before I trashed it. So I ended up with these extensions Actually working here …you simply can't get Them any more. That's pretty cool right :o

Well the message just started for me also this evening suddenly out of the blue (this morning and afternoon no message) figured
it was only a matter of time anyway.
In any event I refuse to comply with their edicts and will simply stop using YT if I can't use Pale Moon.
There are many alternatives so it's a no biggie for me *I think I can live without it. :coffee:
YT can FOAD.

Wow I'm impressed with what you said such loyalty almost makes me want to shed a tear… :? I'm going to use pale moon until the very last second. But YouTube is much as I hate Google is I'm choking saying this… The biggest most powerful most wonderful video storage in the English world. Note how etiquette I was by using English world.

I will hang on to pale moon with every ounce of blood in me but I don't think I can throw away that large of a warehouse of videos and knowledge. That's why I was so surprised how gutsy you are. Well I'm proud you said it because I really do support pale moon. I wish they would hack that stupid Google so we could live with pale moon. Let's see what happens in the future. Anyway cool comment :o

PS I must be a real newbie because I had to go look up and mind you really glad I did…FOAD if it means what they said now I really think you're cool. Blank off and die LOL… You are the coolest I'm really on your side

The new YT interface has a Dark Theme in the settings. So there is no need for an extension for a black look. The settings for the new interface are the three vertical dots to the left of the "Sign In" prompt. But those three vertical dots are not there in the classic old interface. You have to use the code (for linux or windows) to get the new interface which is on Page 1. I use the Dark Theme because I like the new inteface's dark theme (look).

I will say this. Those codes on Page 1 in my post there, some have said they "may" cause performance issues. Well, I have not seen any performance issues on my almost 10 year old desktop tower computer. Even though it is almost 10 years old; it has an Intel i7 processor in it @ 2.80 GHz, (860 dual core), 16 GB of DDR3 -133MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMS) and an old AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics card. In other words, my desktop tower is old, but it isn't under powered. And I've been using the new YT interface for at least 3 years now.

What I am getting at is this. People can use the code in my post on Page 1 "or" people can complain and beat their heads against the wall instead of trying the codes. In essence, there is little to lose and much to gain. If the code doesn't work, they can revert back.

Below is an attachment to show the new YT interface with the Dark Theme. Notice also the three vertical dots, that is the Settings button, to the left of the Sign In prompt. This is where you need to click on to access the Dark Theme in the new interface.

Thank you very much, Night Wing! It worked like a charm. As I'm in Windows 10 x64, I have adapted one of your user agents as this:

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0 PaleMoon/28.8.2
For those who want to follow this route, there is no need to install an extension to override the user agent. Just go to about:config, search for general.useragent.override.youtube.com (create the key as string if needed) and set it to the new user agent string. Easy!

What buggers me is that I have found that the default user agent string for YouTube in Pale Moon 28 is wildly outdated: it emulates Firefox 42, which is more than four years old by now (it dates from November 2015). It's just right that YouTube tells us our browser is out of date!

How do I use the code? I'm no programmer and I have absolutely no idea what to do with this code.

That user agent is there on purpose in order to keep the old YT design and not the horrible new one.

Sometimes the new design appears, I use the default UA override setting. The new design works, I can play videos.
I'll try different agents today.
