Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
What Google is saying is that they are going to retire the pre-polymer (old) user interface.
I've tested with the first version polymer interface for a while now and seen no detrimental effects, so although it's considerably slower to use, it will still work just fine without warnings if you change the user-agent override to pretend we're Firefox 60/62.
Please be aware that Google will be pushing for its Google WebComponents UI version soon too, and that simply will not work yet (although we are working hard on getting both Custom Elements and Shadow DOM in the platform by the next milestone of the browser). These technologies are based on what Mozilla has already had for a decade (XBL and scoped styles primarily), just re-shaped into a Chrome-ism and pushed as a standard strongly favoring Blink.
We cannot guarantee perpetual compatibility with everything YouTube as it will inevitably continue to target Google's own browser engine.

That's a real shame they uses so dirty tactics to force users to go to their bloatware browser (to spy them and suggest their goddamn ads, of course). I really hope that their monopoly will soon come to an end.

The reason I didn't make a user agent for Windows 10 for YouTube (to be used in Pale Moon) is because I do not like Windows 10. I volunteer at a computer repair shop where I got to play around with Windows 10 back in 2015. I didn't like the automatic windows updates policy and still don't. So Windows 10 was never installed on any of my own 4 personal computers (2 desktop towers, 2 laptops). At the time I made those user agents, my daily driver was (and still is) 64 bit linux Mint and the backup operating system was 64 bit Windows 7. I did have to tweak those codes one time between now and back then in 2015 because YouTube changed something, but I was lucky enough to figure it out.
Thank you for making a user agent for 64 bit Windows 10. With your user agent for Windows 10, there are now three user agents for the new YouTube interface which are for 64 bit Linux, 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Windows 10.

YouTube acting odd
This morning I visit my YouTube subscriptions list, via Pale Moon (Version 28.8.2 (32-bit)) and am notified "We’ll stop supporting this browser soon. For the best experience please update your browser." I have seen this with a few other websites when I'm using poor old Internet Explorer 11, but never Pale Moon. Does anyone know what is going on with this? Perhaps Pale Moon will have another ~40-meg update this week (it's always about that big for some reason). For now, I'll ignore the warning and hope YT is just having a bad day considering they've stopped sending email notifications of new content (but still send info about comments). Maybe... they want us to subscribe and send $$, which is crazy as their competition is growing.
Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
I just registered and posted a comment on this problem {ETA: it's right above this comment now}, having noticed it only this morning (Feb 4). I look a little further down the list of topics and see it has already been discussed in detail. I will see if there is a solution already proposed that a regular, non-technically oriented person like me (user of PM for about 5 years now) can figure out how to apply, or hope that in an update PM will fix things! I'm glad the forum is here! YT hasn't tried this yet on IE11, which I find a bit odd since IE1 gets picked on so often... but then I don't have a working ad blocker for IE11, either...

Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
I just tried the new override and don't mind the new YouTube UI (I've seen it before using Chrome), but I much prefer the classic version. What is the most up to date override we can use (Windows 10 here) that keeps the previous US working? Right now I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0 PaleMoon/28.8.2

Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
Fear not, it is their user-agent sniffing at work; they will be retiring their old user interface currently default in Pale Moon. Despite what the message says, it is aimed at old firefox versions that can't support their newer interface. It thinks we are Firefox due to our override.
We will adjust!
Pale Moon has no trouble supporting their newer interface (the first version of it, anyway, we're working on v2 support) but at the time this UI was introduced on YouTube, it was considered undesirable by our users so we defaulted with an override giving us the old (faster) interface.

Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
Apologies if I ask something that's already been addressed, but the thread is getting a bit long and it got also somewhat derailed, so I'm a bit lost.
I've seen the alert on YouTube today for the first time. I love Pale Moon and I'd like to keep using it. What should I do for YouTube to keep working? Some setting to edit? Please explain to me step by step as I'm no expert.
Please don't answer suggesting YouTube alternatives: I've taken note of them, thank you, they may be useful in the future, but that's not what I'm asking now.
Thank you!

Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
A Big Thank You @ Night Wing for the user agent string (win7) It worked great!..No "unsupported browser" banner after doing it,
however I think it automatically changed to the new UI from the classic, looks weird but I can live with it for now.
So YT has been granted a reprieve for now, but I am still on the fence as to their Censoring tactics but leaning heavily
towards outright banning them permanently if they continue this aggressively... I guess I will wait and see, If they piss
me off enough though, I will simply stop caring and ban them totally, I am already quite livid as it is
*If they ever ban/censor the Suspicious0bservers channel, that is my red line. (No Quarter!)
Edit: Another thing I wonder; Would the new user agent string work for Basilisk? or would it need to be modified?
I'm thinking the latter.

It's inevitable. "classic" will go away soon which is the whole point for the message.Kathuluforz wrote: ↑2020-02-04, 13:39No "unsupported browser" banner after doing it,

I'm building an update at the moment to do this by default. Just have some patience if you don't know how to adjust the override or aren't comfortable with stepping into the domain of dragons.

Re: YouTube will stop supporting Pale Moon
I've been using Pale Moon since early in the year 2011 so it is now going on 9 years. Now this be hard for you to believe, but I am "not" a power user. I'm just like you. I "am" a non-technical user. In Windows 7, on a scale of 0-100 with 100 being a total power user, I'm about a 75 and in linux Mint, I'm also a 75. I know enough to get around in both Linux and Windows to do things. And if I need to repair something or make a change and I don't know how, I'll research it to come up with the correct solution.
Changing the default user agent string for YouTube is not hard. It is just takes a few steps. But for some reason, people don't want to do it. Some of them want an easy fix and that isn't going to happen at this time.
There are 3 different user agents for YouTube if you want the new YT interface. And you better decide you want it because sooner or later, Google is going to do away with the classic old YT interface. And this Reality is coming and Google doesn't care what browser you will be using. All browsers will have to deal with the new YT interface. Whatever operating system you use, just copy the correct one that is for your operating system.
All you have to do is clear the address in your Navigation/Address bar to make it "blank". Then type "about:config" (without the quote marks). Then click (or tap) your Enter key. Once on the next page, acknowledge the "Dragons be here" and click on "I promise to be careful" prompt.
When the next page appears, in the long Search box, type in (without the quote marks) "general.useragent.override.youtube.com" and then change the default Value string for YouTube to one of the three user agent codes, depending on your operating system. I'm sure you know how to delete the old code. Then follow the prompts and you're done.
Then exit Pale Moon and then re-boot Pale Moon. Then go to YouTube and you'll see the new YouTube interface. This "isn't" rocket science or advanced mathematics. Some of you people are making it hard when it isn't.

Just click (or tap) the Enter key. Sometimes I get a little ahead of myself when I have to type a long reply.

For a moment I thought the caption of the button to dismiss the 'here be dragons' warning said 'Enter' - I haven't seen that page in ages since I turn off the warning the first time I open about:config so couldn't recall off-hand.Night Wing wrote: ↑2020-02-04, 14:07

@moonbat
Since I'm legally blind, even though I have trifocal glasses, my eyesight is still blurry because I need quadfocal glasses. But they don't make quadfocal glasses. Since they don't make quadfocal glasses, I don't wear glasses.
Which means I don't look at the keyboard when I type. I'm thinking what I want to type in my head and my fingers start doing the typing without me looking at keys on the keyboard. Sometimes I leave out a word or misspell a word like "am" when I mean to type "an". This happens because the "n" and "m" keys are side by side on the keyboard. So I do a lot of editing.
And this is another reason why I have an external 27" monitor when I'm using my oldest desktop tower computer. With NoSquint set at 130, I'm pretty comfortable typing, but I hate it when I have to type a long reply because I know I'll make a few "typos" or leave out a word here and there because I can't type as fast as I can think.

I see this in the page above, is this still right ? : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0 PaleMoon/28.8.2
