Slower speed is not related to watching videos, but browsing/loading various parts of the YT website
This.

Anyway, a reasonably modern and powerful CPU/GPU combination should have no problems with it.
You shouldn't have to have "reasonably modern and powerful" hardware to simply navigate a site. And this is not YouTube only, it's a trend.

Now the fix was applied as-is (I was surprised when Google displayed this in palemoon;
normally ublock origin blocks such unwanted banner-spam), but I am getting increasingly
annoyed with Google trying to get everyone to use adChromium and seek to destroy
alternative browsers - see also the gmail.com extra lag and other penalties that you may
have when you use anything else but the adChromium codebase. I specifically use
alternative browsers + hero-filtering (aka getting rid of ads but also
wonky wobbly things and other stuff that is designed to distract me
needlessly), so what Google is trying here is to leverage the pester-force
against users. I find that an annoying attitude that Google displays here.

Granted, there are other ways to access video content in general, but I just
don't understand why Google invests so much effort into trying to harass users.
All the attempts to force me into ads won't work anyway, so why is Google even
trying to do so? The amount of people using non-adChromium is fairly small,
so why is Google doing this?
