PM versus FB

It seems like for the past year PM has been getting slower and slower on facebook (not sure about elsewhere). Control-W (close tab) has become unbearably slow; however clicking the [x] to close the tab works correctly. E v e r y t h i n g is slow. Fb responds to a <paste> by hiding the edit box (wtf).

Today tried a different UA string from another browser, in about:config

Code: Select all

general.useragent.override.facebook.com = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/78.0.3904.97 Safari/537.36
Turns out FB likes Brave/Chrome more than it likes PM. Ctrl-W is faster, but not as fast as in Brave. Pasting a post or comment actually works. The Notifications page is faster, but not as fast as in Brave.

If this is your suggestion to change the Facebook user-agent override, then you could just say so.
It's surprising that a chrome-based override works better than what we have used so far, but if there are objective advantages to doing so, then we can, of course, change it.

suggestion [for us] to change the Facebook user-agent override
Oh cool I didn't know this was a thing. I had assumed everyone needed to put in their own overrides individually; but now I see PM has a bunch of built-in overrides for popular sites so everyone can benefit. Out of curiosity, how would an updated setting for everyone like this get distributed - would it come in just by installing a PM update? Also, is there any Help documentation other than in this forum?

Updated settings may be pushed out with browser updates, yes. Essentially it's an update to the setting's default value. If you've overridden the setting with a value of your own, it remains unchanged after the update; otherwise the new value will take effect when the update completes.
