Anti-phishing

Unread post by bawldiggle » 2019-07-23, 00:07

Does Palemoon provide phishing detection/protection ?
Is there an addon-extension _OR_ program to detect/deflect phishing ?
I would like to find a live detector ... online domain scans are pointless.

Instead of an AV I am using an anti-executable "VoodooShield PRO" for 2+ years.
VDS does not provide anti-phishing detection
As a stopgap I use Free Bitdefender for phishing detection and live with its frustrating foibles.

Thank you :)

There are several anti-phishing filters to choose from, which can be used with your favorite adblocker:

(search for "phishing")

@ Tomaso
My only experience over the last 5 years has been ABL, but it misses so much, especially slide-in nags, social media bars that follow, and video ads that never end.
ABL is just to basic for my needs, I want to keep webpage clutter to a minimum.
5 weeks ago I lost my left eye after a stroke
I have looked at https://filterlists.com/ ... and I assume to use uBlock Origin.
How many filerlists can I use ?
Applying filters to the "FilterLists" web page (uBlockO, English, phishing(87) ) ... I get one offerring "SteamScamSites"
As a 74 yr old relic ... I thought Steam is for gamers. ?

Would I be complicating the issue with uMatrix too ... or on its own ... or am I on the wrong wave-length ?

Thank you for your help :)

Purely personal opinion... For phishing protection, using *lots* of phishing lists may not be more helpful than using one or two good ones.

Consider starting with Spam404.
It's a built-in selection for uBlock Origin (though not activated by default) and according to filterlists.com it also works with Adblock Plus family blockers (so, ABL).

If you use uBO, you might also activate all of the hosts lists (see the "Multipurpose" section); they're not solely for phishing but I believe catch some of it.

Very possibly.
Piling on multiple blockers won't inherently protect you better. What matters is how well you learn to use whatever you've chosen. uMatrix (PM fork is eMatrix) is an excellent blocker, but be aware there's a learning curve.

You can use the lists with ABP-based blockers too (like ABL and ABPrime), although those blockers, despite being limited in features, are not as light on resources as uBO is.
Even though ABP has fallen way behind at this point, in regards to supported filter syntaxes, most filter authors still strive to make their lists 100% ABP-compatibe!
I'm currently using 44 different filter lists in uBO, without any ill effects.

Only time i would worry about a phishing site would be a financial transaction site or a site which requires sensitive information and there are dozens of online services which can check the authenticity of the site.
