Host Europe stopped working

Unread post by Wolfey » 2019-07-22, 15:58

Hello,

I just wanted to ask if you could say what the reason is for https://www.hosteurope.de/ showing "Something went wrong. Please try again." in Palemoon and an older FF (v55), but not other browsers could be. The console shows Error 400, so I assume it has something to do with headers and such.

Their chat support person gave me the usual "yada yada first time I hear of PM > it's not supported > use something I heard of" kinda stuff, so I assume they now only test their website in Chrome, but it would still be interesting to know what the reason is.

Cheers,
Wolfey

Well at the very least they need to fix their CSP rules.

Thanks Moonchild for your answer. Do you have any idea if the post-quantum FF handles CSP differently from older versions and PM? I need to visit their site pretty often for work and since I only have IE, PM and FF55 on my work PC and neither of these browsers can open their page it really is an annoying issue.

What should I write to their support? I'd really rather annoy them than you guys because you guys do your job maintaining the browser and the broken compatibility of their website is just so fucking wrong.

The "something went wrong" is not a CSP issue. Just saying that that is certainly wrong as well.

What you should write to them is what you wrote here: you can't use their site with any of the browsers you have at your disposal without it throwing this unhelpful error.
This affects IE, Pale Moon, Basilisk, Waterfox, and probably a whole bunch of other browsers that aren't Chrome or Chrome clones (including Firefox-current).
I don't see them doing much business this way.

that aren't Chrome or Chrome clones
What a time to live in. Even as IE6 was the most used browser web devs were all like "what a crappy browser" and tried to push for the better alternatives. And now it's the complete opposite - everybody uses Chrome and it's clones and is happy about it, even devs go ahead and ignore everything else because "why bother everybody uses Chrome anyway". This just pisses me off so much. More so as a web dev.
Sorry for the rant.
I tried to contact them again. They told me there are no known issues and I should call their hotline if I can't access the homepage.
Thanks for your help, Moonchild. Consider the case closed.

I guess they lost a customer. And will lose more of them if that's their attitude.

Having read the OP, I tried the Host Europe website last night and got the same error message.

However, I've just tried it again, and now it works. :eh:

Yup. Looks like they got the message and fixed it.

EDIT: well at least their index page. Their sub pages are still just as busted...
