I am saddened that there is so much antagonism from the team about the new icon.

I cannot see why it was changed.
The you should choose not to ignore my posts explaining it.

The fact remains that not everyone is going to like the icon currently in use no matter what it is.. Here are some excerpts from way back when the bold blue moon icon was introduced changing from the original icon.
Sablesword wrote:I have to dissent: The new icon is ugly In fact, I registered for the forum specifically to complain about it and to try to get the old icon back.

Icons get seen a lot, so they need to be comfortable to look at - even if this does mean that they're also a little dull, stodgy, bland, and/or boring.
back2themoon wrote:[...]About the icon, it's certainly not ugly, quite the contrary. But it does look more "aggressive" and less calm than the old one, so I can understand someone who'd prefer a 'cleaner' icon in front of him/her.
panos wrote:The old icon looks like a pale moon.

The new icon looks like a scrying sphere or a blue marble. What's the point of the drop shadow in a moon ?

I'm in favor of the old icon.
Dogway wrote:I liked the old icon in every way. "shiny" stuff tends to age worse, as the old one was more simple. Anyways what bothers me the most is the shade changing the side XDD it feels uncanny, as if somewhat was wrong.

just wanted to throw out my opinion (being on the arts field, although that might not mean much)
Sablesword wrote:Seconded. Simple is good. Even bland can be good, in a situtation like this one, with an everyday object one is looking at day-in and day-out.
So yeah, no way everyone was gonna be happy.. but I have a feeling that if we change it in 5 years the same amount of resistance will happen.. Along with 10 years down the road and 15 years down the road and so on. So I suggest you get over it or override it if you want but do it quietly. This bullshit won't be tolerated going forward just because you all get triggered when a single pixel changes.
