When I installed my very first Pale Moon browser (28.2.2) several months ago, I was able to very easily import all Chrome bookmarks, all Internet Explorer bookmarks, and all Firefox bookmarks as HTML files with no difficulty. Today, the situation has changed dramatically. All of my other browsers can still import and export bookmarks as HTML files very easily. However, my Pale Moon browser can't import any bookmarks from any browsers any longer. THIS IS THE FIRST MAJOR GLITCH OF PALE MOON BROWSER. I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling with modern versions or extremely ancient versions (including 28.2.2 and 24.1) of Pale Moon but the result was exactly the same. No bookmarks can be imported into Pale Moon browser from any HTML or JSON.

I believe the criminals are the real cause of this intentional glitch. Strangely enough, my Firefox browser can easily import the bookmarks from the HTML file that was created by my Pale Moon browser! Here's what eventually worked for me, that is, after about 30 failed attempts to import bookmarks into Pale Moon.

I deleted the new Pale Moon icon, which give the criminals access to Pale Moon (look under Properties >> Security >> Advanced). I copied and pasted a very old Pale Moon icon which I had stored in an external hard drive. I entered that old icon into my Quick Launch/Taskbar. I then succeeded - but just barely, it was a cliffhanger - to import the Pale Moon bookmarks (as HTML file), which I had stored in that same external hard drive. I did NOT use the Pale Moon bookmarks HTML file that I had stored on my Desktop. My Pale Moon JSON files will still always fail, no matter what I do or no matter which JSON file I use, so don't use JSON with Pale Moon. My Chrome bookmarks (as HTML file) also imported successfully - but just barely, it was a cliffhanger - into my Pale Moon 28.5.2.

There is also confusion over 32-bit versus 64-bit. Our computers are 64-bit but Pale Moon is 32-bit.

As a test, create a new, clean Profile.
Open it up.
Attempt to import your bookmarks.

Does that work?

Seem to recall that on Mac certain browsers would add fields/content that were not agreeable (was it <H3 FOLDED> ?) when importing in certain other browsers.


You've got me on that criminal bit - can't check 28 presently.


How does an import work, "barely"?
Is there something that tells you it barely worked, or just what do you look for?

Importing bookmarks works..
You'll just have to the give the process enough time to finnish.
This is due to a very old Mozilla bug, which has been discussed here in the forum many times.

The extreme difficulty in importing bookmarks into both Pale Moon (resembles Firefox 4.0 to Firefox 28.0) and Basilisk (resembles Firefox 29.0 to Firefox 56.0) will inhibit these 2 browsers created by Mark Straver from gaining any meaningful market share. Pale Moon has great difficulty in restoring bookmarks from JSON but less difficulty in importing bookmarks from HTML. Basilisk has great difficulty in restoring bookmarks from JSON and even more difficulty in importing bookmarks from HTML. An older version of Firefox, say Firefox 21.0, which still has the microscopic bookmarks toolbar, or Firefox 22.0, which suddenly now has the larger bookmarks toolbar, will be very helpful because they can much more easily accept the restoration of bookmarks from JSON created by a modern, updated Pale Moon or by a modern, updated Basilisk. Here's what we need to do:
(1)Download and install at least 5 browsers, including Internet Explorer, Chrome (but not Chromium or Commodo Dragon), Pale Moon, Basilisk, and any ancient, 32-bit version of Firefox (from websites such as https://filehippo.com/download_mozilla-firefox/15380/ or https://www.filepuma.com/download/mozil ... eta3-3188/). These 32-bit versions of Firefox will still be very useful on 64-bit computers.
(2)Keep trying, over and over again, to import bookmarks into all 5 of your browsers from (a)your other browsers, (b)your HTML files, and/or (c)your JSON files.
(3)To improve your odds, become an experienced expert at using your Windows Task Manager, of "Ending Process" for all bogus tasks that are just the criminals at Microsoft or the criminals at your ISP (Internet Service Provider) trying to jam up, slow down, or block the vital functions of your computer.
(4)To improve your odds, become an expert at inspecting the Right Click > Properties > Security > Advanced > Permissions of ALL of your Desktop and Start Menu icons/shortcuts.
Do not allow ANY icons/shortcuts contained in your computer to allow "INTERACTIVE" or "Everyone" written on their Permissions, as this will aid the criminals in jamming up your computer. Simply copy and paste every icon on your Desktop and delete the original one that allows "INTERACTIVE" or "Everyone."
(5)If everything fails, just keep trying, over and over again. If your see a pop-up prompt about "Warning: Unresponsive script," select Continue instead of Stop script. Importing bookmarks from HTML will add to your existing bookmarks, not replace them completely as in the case of JSON. Also, HTML bookmark imports will appear at the very, very bottom of all of your bookmarks under "Bookmarks." They will not appear on your Bookmarks Toolbar as in the case of JSON.

Excuse me, but you're making this over-analyzed statement with a lot of assumptions based on a number of wrong facts here.

• Pale Moon is not Firefox. Basilisk is not Firefox.
• Json-based bookmark backups are an internal format that is not meant for data exchange.
• HTML-based bookmark export and import is a "best effort" mechanism of exchanging bookmarks.
• Both browsers are not "created by Mark Straver". They are community projects. I'm tired of being elevated to this "sole creator" status, because it's simply not true and incorrect in many ways to even consider.
• Meaningful market share is not a prerequisite for a community-created browser. We have no corporation to have ROI for, we have no minimum revenue to secure. Our market share is purely organic. People who want to use it, use it. People who don't want to use it, don't.
• Being able to import foreign bookmark formats will not significantly impact our usership numbers. While convenient if working flawlessly, it's not essential for the browser's core functionality.

To everyone: just give the process ample time to finish. if you get an unresponsive script error when importing large amounts of bookmarks, let it continue. Do this a few times if needed; eventually the process will complete.
