Is it likely that further performance improvements would be possible with the x64 version?
Waterfox only has basic optimization, but bests Pale Moon from the tests I've run, thanks.

Yes, further performance improvements are possible with x64 - see the remarks on Pale Moon's download page:

Performance of the current builds is about on-par with the 32-bit version for most things. They do not yet have the same level of optimization as the 32-bit versions, which balances out with the advantages of running a native 64-bit application. Expect this to be improved in the future.

I did read that, but also read that some performance updates have been applied to 7.01 so was unsure if say the majority of changes had already been done on that.

Heh, no, I wish I could have, but I've had major issues trying to build it with full optimizations because the Microsoft compiler kept crashing.

Just a FYI: AVX is too limited an instruction set to consider right now (only the very latest processors support it) as well as the compiling machine needing to be able to run AVX code for profiling. The hardware simply isn't available to do that.

I've done a quick compare between Waterfox and Pale Moon x64 this morning using Peacekeeper v1, and they seem to be performing similarly, even without Pale Moon having been optimized completely. Data handling, Canvas and DOM give Pale Moon the advantage, basic rendering seems to be a bit better in Waterfox (but that may have been influenced as well by me running like 20 background programs while testing, I noticed some stuttering while running the test on Pale Moon)

It's an on-going process to fine-tune the build without breaking the compiler's back, and therefore slow, lots of trial and error involved. I gather by the time Mozilla releases their official 64-bit versions (at which time Waterfox will become redundant) it should be fully optimized.
