Cannot load some PDF with 28.5 (but works with 27.9.4)

Unread post by technoid » 2019-05-24, 02:10

Hi,

I cannot load the following PDF with version 28.5. The same issue exist with all Firefox versions (tested from version 67 down to 52) for the internal PDF Reader and for the Adobe Reader. Pale Moon 27.9.4 and Internet Explorer 11 doesn't have this issue.

Edit: the issue also exist in safe mode (Pale Moon 28.5 and Firefox 52-67) and with new profiles.

technoid,

FWIW, I have no problem with that website, however, I do not use the internal PDF Reader, instead I use the Sumatra PDF plugin

There is no internal PDF reader in Pale Moon. What internal PDF reader are you talking about?

I tried the same with my arrangement (no internal viewer, asks to save or view with acrobat). If I ask to view nothing happens (in the download log I find a failure message), if I ask to save I get a similar error message (slightly different as I am on Linux), It looks the original source file is protected ...

Chrome and Opera (chrome based) can download and save this PDF (doesn't work with Pale Moon 28 and Firefox 52-69alpha). After that the PDF can be opened with Adobe Reader, but their internal PDF viewer also doesn't work.

Issue must be serverside catering to chrome somehow.

Server is reporting wrong file size (215461 instead of 210113, the real size), different programs are different tolerant about this error:

Well good to know. Yeah, we tend to be strict about obeying the server as per spec. When the server gives us bad responses well we act accordingly and this happens. I know it can be annoying to not have more fault tolerance and sniffing and odd special cases but it really is a double edged sword because if you go too far the other way you start ignoring the server when you shouldn't.

What makes us different than The Exact Same is that we try to reach a good balance.
Put simply, the server fucked up, let them know.. ESPECIALLY since you can reproduce the issue using other tools like wget. Less likely to dismiss their bullshit because we are us.
