Logging into firefox accounts

Unread post by thosrtanner » 2019-01-12, 16:49

I've used personas plus and personas rotator for a long while now to change my firefox theme at intervals. However, it requires to be able to log into firefox accounts to fetch your favourite themes.

Which as of recently has stopped. I can log into the account fine from firefox (same username and password) and from basilisk. however from palemoon it just hangs.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

See the link below. It kind of implies that Pale Moon has already abandoned Firefox accounts, and states that the next version of Basilisk will too.

EDIT:
A more conclusive statement:
Pale Moon uses a different "Sync" client and its own server to synchronize data between different instances of the browser. This is not compatible with Firefox Sync as used in Firefox 29 or later. Mozilla's change to "Firefox Accounts" is a different and less secure approach to synchronizing data and focuses more on future commercial endeavours of the Mozilla Corporation and, after careful consideration, has been rejected for use in Pale Moon (for quite the list of reasons, to be fair).

I would say this is not related to UXP FxA support being removed. Pale Moon never supported those and this was apparently working on it. Also it works on Basilisk, and Basilisk does not support FxA since I think last version.

Try to set general.useragent.override.firefox.com -> Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0.

Well I'm confused as to how that works, based on what is written on the Technical Details page that I quoted.

Well, speaking as a former confused-nik...

OP was only asking about logging in to a firefox account, not about sync. The one doesn't automatically mean the other.
At least that's how I understand it.

Indeed. The OP isn't trying to use firefox sync. The OP is trying to log into firefox account. Two very different things.
