Videoplayer loading indicator always there

Unread post by Paradise » 2018-12-10, 17:00

I have 2 websites where the player shows a loading indicator (circle) all the time.
You can see it here (after the commercial): https://www.tvspielfilm.de/tv-programm/ ... cc691.html
And here: https://www.focus.de/kultur/kino_tv/ver ... 47615.html

This happens also with a fresh profile and also in Basilisk.

The first time I opened each site, they worked correctly.

tvspielfilm always works correctly on my end.
focus.de sometimes works correctly.

Not sure of the reason?

Is that circle the default loading indicator of Pale Moons video player?

No solution? I'm the only one with that problem on some sites?

The loading indicator seems to be connected to adblocking. On both sites, for me, after whitelisting the site and letting an ad run, the loading indicator disappeared and stayed gone until the next page refresh.

Or as an the alternative, try putting the player into full screen; that seems to get rid of it as well.

As i wrote it happens on a fresh profile. So no blocker or other add-ons.

I still wonder where this circle comes from?

Allow me to reframe that.

The loading indicator appears to be present if the ad has not run.
For me, once the ad was allowed to run all the way through, it segued into the video and the loading indicator disappeared.

It worked that way for me just now with a new profile (so no adblocker): The loading indicator was present when the page first loaded. But after a few moments the ad began to play, and when it finished the video played (minus loading indicator).

Did you let the ad play through?

In a fresh PM profile (no uBlock) i don't have ad's but the circle.
In Firefox even with uBlock i have ad's on https://www.tvspielfilm.de but NOT on https://www.focus.de.

Funny behavior...

Confirmed.
As a workaround, you can remove it with this blocking rule:

Code: Select all

focus.de,tvspielfilm.de###loadingcurl

@Paradise:

Read the posts above!
coffeebreak has already explained why this problem occurs, and I can confirm that he is right.
If it still happens to you when you've disabled your adblocker, then you probably have some other type of software that's filtering your traffic.

To get around it, you can use the blocking rule that I provided in my previous post.

Also, you could try to report the problem on the issue tracker for your favorite filter list.
E.g. to EasyList here:
https://github.com/easylist/easylist/issues/
..and hope that they eventually can come up with a more elegant solution.

Tomaso's filter works like a charm.

Please consider to stop trying with the fresh profile, and add that filter to uBlock Origin.

(Open uBO's dashboard > My filters tab > paste the filter in; click "Apply changes")
