pdf viewer on v28.* ?
hi, before someone links to the dead threads about the pdf viewer, i've already tried the suggestions there and they didn't work.
i use this link to test if the pdf browser viewer is working;
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/pdf.html
pdf-x works fine in ie11 but in pm it errors saying file is empty, pdf ui shows but is blank.
the suggested pdf viewer to use instead of the incompatible pm addon doesn't work either, it installs but upon testing, the above link tells me no pdf plugin is installed.
so is there any working pdf plugins / addons available for pale moon 28.* ?

How is anyone to respond without knowing what you have tried?
(Though that won't stop me from responding .)
You might see if this works (I haven't tried), https://github.com/IsaacSchemm/pdf.js-s ... g/v2.0.961.
It installs, & opens that PDF embedded in the browser window.

i'm using pale moon 28.2.2 x64.
is it only for the 32bit browser version? the mozilla pdf test page just says no plugin is installed.

I'm on 28.2.1 x64 Windows, installed & displayed that PDF just as expected.

Re: pdf viewer on v28.* ?
You want the file, pdf.js.xpi.
Download it, then drag it into PM.
Actually, if you click on it, it will probably just ask to install.

Re: pdf viewer on v28.* ?
If when you say pdf-x, you mean PDF-XChange Viewer/Editor, I use PDF-XChange Viewer and that test site works fine for me. Given that, if it's not working for you, it isn't that the plugin just doesn't work. Something else is wrong. You're going to have to try the usual troubleshooting steps to find out what is wrong with your setup. It's possible no PDF solution will work within Pale Moon until you find out the root cause of the issue.

what worked for me was this @ http://forums.fofou.org/sumatrapdf/topi ... 374&post=1
downloaded indicated source code
built solution in vs2012 as x64 / release (link mentions vs2013 which i tried first but it failed to build, then i checked the source and the sln file had 2012 in it's name)
renamed npPdfViewer.dll > npPdfViewer64.dll
copied .exe and .dll files to sumatrapdf install folder
registered npPdfViewer64.dll
launched pale moon and pdf plugin showed up
went to test page and now i can view pdfs in browser
pdf-xchange - didn't work
pdf viewer - didn't work

What works for me is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
One step.
Not five.
Maybe Sumatra does something special; I don't know.

well good for you, some of us like to use portable software, to cut down on stuff to install everytime one has to do a reinstall of windows. there's nothing special about sumatra pdf, other than it's basic viewing capibilites and low mem footprint. i rarely view pdf's outside of the browser so i don't use adobe pdf anymore, i just wanted a basic pdf view in the browser, and now i have one for IE11 (pdf-x) and PM (sumatra pdf). both installed portable without extra bits.van p wrote:What works for me is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Re: pdf viewer on v28.* ?
Don't think I've ever had to do a re-install of Windows. If I have a problem I can't fix, whether it's Windows or some other software, I just restore my last system image. If I have to re-install or download something that happened after the last system image was created, then I do that. This is a lot simpler than re-installing the OS.

If the problem was not already there when you created the OS image.van p wrote:Don't think I've ever had to do a re-install of Windows. Re: pdf viewer on v28.* ?
For the process to be meaningful it needs to be done on a regular basis, which I do, and keep a few generations. Never had a problem I couldn't get past.snertev wrote: If the problem was not already there when you created the OS image.

Re: pdf viewer on v28.* ?
That's funny, because everyone i know just reinstalls windows or does an inplace upgrade when stuff goes tits up.
not everyone wants to bother with backing up a whole install, especially home users, there's just no point. i keep all my important data on external drives so when windows goes wrong my data is safe.
windows these days takes no time to reinstall anyway, especially on a ssd.
anyway, thanks for the less than helpful input. mods can close this now.

Re: pdf viewer on v28.* ?
I hardly know where to begin, especially your "just no point" comment. I also back up stuff on an external drive, but that doesn't solve a problem that has nothing to do with that data or if that data is corrupted. If the source of the problem isn't known, but it's reasonable to assume it's not my data, then doing basically a simple copy of last known good data over unknown bad data makes perfect sense. "whole install"? It takes less time to re-install a system image than it does to make it, and certainly less time than an OS install. Especially with M$, anything conceivable/inconceivable can go wrong with an OS install.rancorx2 wrote: not everyone wants to bother with backing up a whole install, especially home users, there's just no point. i keep all my important data on external drives so when windows goes wrong my data is safe.

Finally, I've encountered many people on forums who create system images, and there are several software packages created specifically for that purpose, in addition to the M$ functionality.
