Palemoon Crashes After Upgraded to v28.x

Unread post by irvinehooi » 2018-12-09, 09:41

Hi I'm very happy with no issue using Palemoon until v27.9.4 and feels reluctantly to upgrade to Palemoon v28.x series.
Today I try to update to latest Palemoon v28.2.2 and it crashes whenever I start the Palemoon on my computer. Everything back to normal as soon as I put back the Palemoon v27.9.4 to my computer.

OS: Windows 7 with SP1 x64 Edition
Palemoon: x64 Edition

I attached the crash error log that appeared on my screen to below:

You will probably need to provide a core dump.

Are you using Comodo Internet Security?

If so, 64 bit Pale Moon crashes at launch since version 28.

Hi thanks for your reply.

Yes, I'm using the Comodo Internet Security in my computer. I'm using it just for their firewall. It is an old version I somehow forget what version I'm using, should be from year 2010 or 2011.

I'm reluctantly to use the new Comodo because the new one keep getting heavier than the old one. Plus I'm not interested to the new UI. I can't find any alternative to replace the Comodo I'm using.

Thanks.

I am using the old Comodo firewall v5.12 without problems.
It is the 32 bit version, maybe it is only the 64 bit version that causes trouble.
It may also very well be because you have only disabled everything else than the firewall, then you get trouble.
The other parts of the security suite must be deselected during the installation, because disabling things in Comodo is just as disabling telemetry in Windows 10

Unless you have restored your profile directory from a backup made before you upgraded to PM 28, you may encounter further problems due to incompatibilities. Once a profile has been upgraded to use with PM 28, rolling that same profile back to any version below 28 could result in file corruption and other potential problems.

If you are using Comodo Internet Security 5, it -will- crash 64-bit versions of Pale Moon 28. There is no workaround for this.
You have to upgrade Comodo IS to 6.3 or later for this issue to be resolved. it is a problem with a 64-bit dll part of Comodo IS 5.

Alternatively you can use the 32-bit version of Pale Moon; I do not think the 32-bit parts of Comodo IS have the same issue.

Yes, I tested with Palemoon v28.2.2 with no issue by removing the Comodo IS from my computer.
And finally I've updated the Comodo IS to latest version v11 to my computer and both Palemoon and Comodo are running happily without any issue.

Many thanks to those who had helped me for this issue.
Thank you.
