MP3 streaming

Unread post by NewMoon1 » 2018-10-09, 06:25

I often listen to the Austrian news in the morning at http://oe1.orf.at/player/live, but in Firefox (where it works).
It does not work in Pale Moon and there tells that has no player for MP3 live performance.
What can I do?
(This news broadcast, if someone wants to try, is only available from 0700 to around 0820 local time, i.e. 0500 to 0620 UTC)
I use Windows 7 Pro 32.

I got the same alert about no MP3 players as you did until I allowed scripts to run. Sure you're not using an extension which is blocking some scripts or not allowing the player to run?

Make sure to check if it works in PM's safe mode (Help->Restart in Safe Mode...). If not, post the information in Help->Troubleshooting Information in case there's something that could help with finding out the issue in there.

The site requires that cookies be allowed (or allowed for session). When first clicking on this website link, I got a mostly blank page. I created an exception for http://oe1.orf.at/player/live (allow for session). The player now loads and performs flawlessly.

Check your settings for history in Pale Moon preferences "Privacy" pane. Select "Use custom settings for history" to view default settings for cookie permissions. "Always use private browsing mode" should NOT be selected. Either allow cookies by default, or create an exception to allow cookies for oe1.orf.at.

Note that if the cookie permissions process is unfamiliar to you, or you wish to avoid, it may be easier to use one of the many cookie extensions available from Pale Moon add-ons.

As long as cookies are enabled "Always use private browsing mode" can be selected. It's how I did test the site.

A helpful question might have stated ...

What browser you're using
If you've tried Safe Mode
If you've tried a new, clean Profile

If you are using "non-standard" settings in your browser
...

Anyhow, the "music" & player plays for you in PM?
It is only the morning news, "live stream", during certain hours, that does not?

(Seem to recall issues with Youtube "live streams" for some, but don't recall what the issue ended up being?)

But it works in Firefox!
Tried Pale Moon in safe mode, did not help.

What extensions do you have?

I don't have my crystal ball at hand but I assume that you're using Pale Moon 28.1.0.
- Close Pale Moon.
- Rename your prefs.js file (e.g. prefs.js.bak). Most of your settings are stored in that file, so by renaming you can revert easily.
The file is located in your profile folder. At start Pale Moon will create a new one.
- Start Pale Moon and and check if it works now with that site.

Compare you old, renamed prefs.js with the new & see if you can come up with the particular Pref that was breaking things for you?

Yes, I already thought of that.
But it is a big job! There is SO MUCH in them both.
Any tip of what to look for?

Filter on "media.".

Or better use a file comparison utility that ... compares two files ;-).
Load both prefs.js into the comparison utility & let it have a go at it.
