I have just noticed the "x" to close a tab is missing when I have HW acceleration enabled.

I cannot reproduce what you're seeing.

Since I own four older computers, circa 2010 to 2013 year models, I always turn off Hardware Acceleration in both 64 bit linux and 32 bit windows Pale Moon (28.1.0). After reading your comments, I turned on Hardware Acceleration and then spent 10 minutes opening new blank tabs to see if the "x" was missing. It wasn't.

Then I kept up opening new tabs one after another and loading them with some of my favorite bookmarks and the "x" was in every tab. After 10 minutes, I quit opening new tabs since I cannot see where the "x" is missing in a tab since it does not randomly happen for me at all.

With my experiment over, I went back and turned Hardware Acceleration off. The only two addons I use are NoSquint and Adblock Latitude.

There's another thread on this issue, which you might want to read up on:

Finally. Someone else with the same issue as me. This behavior never happened with Pale Moon 27.9.4. It started happening with version 28. What video driver are you using? Hope Moonchild will reply here, too, and see that this is not an isolated thing, and maybe investigate a little more. Thanks.

18.5.1 for me here. Seems the problem is with Radeon owners for whatever reason. Does anyone else with NVIDIA (or Radeon) cards have the same issue?

One of my desktop towers has a Nvidia graphics card in it and it is using the last NV graphics driver which will install in it and that is a 340 driver.

The other desktop tower has an AMD graphics driver but I don't know which graphics driver it is using since it is my backup desktop tower. I don't use that computer very much. I only use it to update programs which includes windows and linux Pale Moon. And like I said before, when running Windows 7 Ultimate on that particular hard drive (that tower computer has three hard drives in it) and all the tabs in 32 bit windows Pale Moon 28.0.1 have the "x" in them.

When I'm running my 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.0.1 running in 64 linux Mint 19 (Tara) Xfce in either of my desktop tower computers, I do not use the AMD or Nvidia proprietary drivers. I use the open source Nouveau graphics driver for linux Pale Moon. No problems with the Nouveau open source driver. I have the "x" in every tab.

My wife's laptop (HP Envy) uses 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.0.1 and she also uses the open source Nouveau graphics driver running in 64 bit bit linux Mint 19 (Tara) Xfce. The "x" is every one of her tabs too. She doesn't use her Windows 7 hard drive in her laptop. Her windows hard drive is in a clothes drawer.

My experimental laptop (dv4-5113cl) also runs 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.0.1 running in 64 bit linux Mint 19 (Tara) Xfce with the same open source Nouveau graphics driver for that linux hard drive. And the "x" is in every tab.

Staying with my experimental laptop, ditto for my 32 bit windows Pale Moon 28.0.1 running in 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1 hard drive. It is using the Intel 4000 graphics chip in it. I just don't know off hand the specific graphics driver for it since I only use this laptop to update programs on it and/or install new programs on it. And the "x" is in every tab.

On my machine I'm running a Nvidea GeForce GTX 750 Ti
My wife's machine is running a EVGA GeForce 8400 GS 1 GB DDR3 PCI-E 2.0

Both show no issues here.

Thanks to everyone for replying. Hmm. Well, something's going on. Clearly, there was a change of some kind going from version 27 to version 28 of Pale Moon that effectuated this change in behavior. AMD has some of the most stable drivers around (and some may even say they are better than NVIDIA's), and while Moonchild has explained in the other above-referenced thread about how and why the X's come and go, it's impossible not to completely exclude Pale Moon, given the evidence had. If anyone else has had X's disappear on them, please post here or in the other thread so Moonchild et al. can be aware. Thanks.
