Viewing / Importing history

Unread post by Walker » 2018-09-16, 06:29

Hello friends,

The Windows system files became corrupted on my laptop and I can't boot from it anymore.
I'm currently using my old desktop and I need to view the Palemoon history on the laptop drive.
I don't need to import them to the current installation if that's not possible; I just need to search them.

The laptop OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
The desktop uses Widows XP 32-bit Palemoon version 26.3.3

Thanks for the link and the reply.

I can't find any files with the word "history" in the name though.
Should I be looking for something else?

places.sqlite.

Though...

MozillaHistoryView relies on "FF's" "sqlite" engine.

If no results are returned, point MZH to the Pale Moon instalDir, setting that location in the Select History Filename (F6) dialog -> 'Use the following Firefox installation folder to load the SQLite Library'.

I'm having some difficulty.
I don't know if it's because I failed to understand your directions or if it's due to a difference in configuration.

What is the "installDir" and where is it in relation to the Palemoon folder?
The F6 key doesn't do anything when I'm using the program.

Well you've found your instalDir ;-).
(I wouldn't necessarily have put MHV in there, but that should work.)

Now you need places.sqlite, & that is in your http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox.
So point MHV to {profile_folder}/places.sqlite.

I understand now.

I'm getting this error however.

I can't select anything in the installation folder.

What am I supposed to select?

Is Pale Moon 32 or 64-bit?
Is MHV 32 or 64-bit?
Thinking you'll want the two to agree.

What version of PM are you using (on Win7)?

I solved the problem by transplanting the three places.sqlite files into the current installation so the history displays natively.

The Palemoon on XP is 32 bit.
I installed the 32 bit version of MHV.

The PM on the Widows 7 drive whose history I wanted is 64 bit.

The places database is not fully backwards compatible with earlier versions of Pale Moon. Also, Windows XP nor the versions of Pale Moon that can run on it are not supported.

Sure, you can take matters into your own hands and bust your profile but you are on your own.
