Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
The latest Palemoon's version number (27) is VERY LATE when compared to the latest Firefox's version number (61) which is preventing lots of add-ons from installation due to addons.mozilla.org policy, some of 'em might be compatible I guess (non-webextension).
I suggest that Palemoon's version numbers to be aligned with Firefox's to prevent this inconvenient.
Respectfully
[Edit: I'm aware that I can install 'em manually, still inconvenient for some.]

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
As been said before, Pale Moon is not Firefox and never will be again.
Tell us what add-ons are giving you trouble. (And if they are web extensions, it won't matter what Pale Moon's version number is; Pale Moon will never support web extensions.)

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
Why? what's wrong with web extensions? Nobody said anything about turning Palemoon into another Firefox, it's just the version numbers.helloimustbegoing wrote:As been said before, Pale Moon is not Firefox and never will be again.

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
Nope. Pale Moon serves that version number to AMO for specific reasons. Firefox 28 introduced the australis user interface which has not (and will not) be implemented in Pale Moon. Some extensions that are written for Firefox 28+ expect that user interface, and thus will have problems functioning properly when installed in Pale Moon.Abdulrhman Ayman wrote:I suggest that Palemoon's version numbers to be aligned with Firefox's to prevent this inconvenient.

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
You could try the older pre-webextension versions (found on the Versions) page, & see if they might (or might not) work?

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
You can change the user agent override for AMO:
general.useragent.override.addons.mozilla.org
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0
This will not let you install WebExtensions, it will just let you see all available extensions on AMO.

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
I was able to install Firefox extensions into Pale Moon by addiing the Pale Moon-specific information into install.rdf in the .xpi files. I just used that information from one of the Pale Moon themes. It looks like this:

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
Doesn't "Moon Tester Tool" add-on help with the issue the TS talks about?

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
It does, potentially, but not if the add-ons are web extensions (someone correct me if I'm wrong).endemion wrote:

Also, from its webpage:
BTW, what does TS stand for? I assume you mean OP?Warning! Moon Tester Tool is intended for advanced users and for test purposes only!
Installation of improper extensions or themes may break the browser and lead to the damage or loss of data. You can't expect or ask for any support of extensions and themes installed via Moon Tester Tool neither from their authors, nor from developers of the browser.

Yeah, that's my understanding as well, so I believe you are correct.helloimustbegoing wrote:It does, potentially, but not if the add-ons are web extensions (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Topic Starter or Thread Starter, I believe. So yeah, OP.helloimustbegoing wrote:BTW, what does TS stand for?

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
As far as I know, the "Moon Tester Tool" allows you to basically install any Firefox add-on but if it isn't compatible Pale Moon will let you know with a failed installation instead of you being prevented to even download/try the add-on that may work even though the website doesn't recognize your browser as compatible.
TS = Topic Starter it's a bit more broad a term than OP (Opening Post) which only refers to the first post.

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
But if the add-on is a web extension, it's a waste of time. Pale Moon does not support web extensions.
I've always used OP to mean original poster.

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
I just downloaded the two add-ons the OP linked to (didn't install, of course). They are web extensions, so he needs to either A) use an earlier version that isn't web extensions (if available), or B) find replacement add-ons that aren't web extensions. Choice "A" may not be feasible since they are security add-ons.
Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
Oh, & if that is your thinking, "just version numbers", then no, that is entirely wrong.OP aka TS wrote:Why? what's wrong with web extensions? Nobody said anything about turning Palemoon into another Firefox, it's just the version numbers.
Webextensions are much different from Legacy extensions, using API's that do not exist at all in older FF (so also not in PM), & internally they are different too, like having no install.rdf (which would be required for older FF/PM), so no, it is not "just version numbers".
B, is an option in both instances.
Backup & test.
(Better to test in a separate "test" Profile.)

Re: Palemoon's version number is preventing lots of add-ons
That's basically what I said elsewhere. There are only so many compromised one is willing to make. Pale moon is in my opinion too small to move so far away from Firefox that it doesn't support Firefox extensions anymore (as in web extensions support required).ArchieLukas wrote:BUT, it doesn't in reality does it? If by "gestures" you mean mouse gestures, Mouse Gestures Suite legacy extension works fine with Pale Moon 28. It is far superior compared to its web extension counterpart.
