Pale Moon RAM usage limit (2000 Mb)

Unread post by Qeeet » 2018-04-15, 07:52

Basically the problem is that Pale Moon cannot use all RAM available on Windows 10 64bit.
Pale Moon is of last version 64 bit.

How to fix that? Is that an issue of M$ windows or pale moon?

The problem also is that while not using enough of resources, browsing becomes a nightmare

If Pale Moon isn't using more than 2GB on your system, then it clearly hasn't had a need for allocating more.
If there has been a need for more, then there is some other software (or windows itself) limiting the amount of memory available to the browser. Pale Moon x64 has no issue allocating more than 2GB if it needs it, just ask Satrow ;)

I totally believe you. But this doesn't resolve the issue. Pale Moon definitely needs more RAM. I have 700 tabs open, 50 of which are active. RAM usage is always fluctuating around 2000 Mb. Pale Moon gets 1-2 second freezes. Its a nightmare to use it.

700 tabs ?
maybe you can try this add-on :

Diversity is key.

On windows 7 64bit Pale Moon woks fine. The issue regards only windows 10, I don't think any addon with resolve the problem. Since I use tabs a lot. I have constantly 30+ tabs open.

Could easily be a W10 issue or the settings in use, or some 3rd party 'utility' software running interference. I don't use W10 so can't check it but there must be other W10/Pale Moon users and this problem hasn't been reported before to my knowledge. Which build # and SKU (Pro/Home, etc.) are you using?

A full list of 3rd party software running might be useful, as would a list of all extensions/plugins/add-ons etc. in Pale Moon. The Announcements/Stickies in this section will give you details of what you need to supply.

700 populated tabs can, from my own experience, lead to 10+GB memory usage which would hammer your virtual memory/page file and greatly reduce performance. 50 active tabs might only mean ~1-1.5GB usage, much depends on browser uptime and usage - including occasional usage of other heavier software - also beware of software that has been closed but has left a Process running in the background.

Is that with cache disabled? Still, this works out to about 2.8 Mb/page. HTML might account for only 30-100k/page so that's a lot of images per page.

Ah, the good ol days when we had 5.6k modems and a 4k connection was a good one.... web pages were skinny then.

You have 700 tabs? Have you never heard of bookmarks? I have over 800 bookmarks, and I am never using all at once; in fact, ususally 10 or less.

I didn't disable it.

I have 700 tabs which are inactive i.e. unloaded.
