Browser update is broken

Unread postby JustOff » Tue, 10 Apr 2018, 15:15

It seems at the moment browser update does not work (both release and unstable channels). Is everything ok with aus.palemoon.org?
Here are the add-ons I made in a spare time. That was fun!

My bad.. The cached manifest files need to be purged so they can regenerate.. Stand by.. it should be working soon.

Sorry to bother. My update has been broken for quite a while. Trying today to get it working, as FF will be actively 'removed' soon (at work).

Windows 10
Palemoon 27.7.0
Uses a proxy
Can reach the https://aus.palemoon.org server manually in the navigation bar

To duplicate.
Help ---> about pale moon
'check for updates'
Updates available!
'Apply update'
...upgrade to pale moon 27.9.3 now?
'Get the new version'
Connecting to the update server ... (hangs here)

Has been doing this for a long time, likely since before the 27.7.0 version.

PS -- only today fixed the sync, for the clusterurl entry inhibited syncing.

Thank you!

What troubleshooting is available for even pinpointing why updates are not downloadable? I'm unable to find much of anything useful.

Set app.update.log to true in about:config and keep an eye on the browser console.

Thank you for that.
I've not previously used the console, and the log was interesting.

I missed the error first time around, and needing the upgrade, so I installed/extracted the new version alongside, within it's own directory structure.

Code: Select all

AUS:SVC UpdateService:removeDownloadListener - no downloader!

The console log shows (replaced my user account with 'mememe'):

Code: Select all

AUS:SVC Creating UpdateService
AUS:SVC Checker: checkForUpdates, force: true
AUS:SVC Checker:getUpdateURL - update URL: https://aus.palemoon.org/?application=palemoon&version=27.7.0&arch=WINNT_x86_64-msvc&buildid=20180113091822&channel=release&force=1
AUS:SVC gCanCheckForUpdates - able to check for updates
AUS:SVC Checker:checkForUpdates - sending request to: https://aus.palemoon.org/?application=palemoon&version=27.7.0&arch=WINNT_x86_64-msvc&buildid=20180113091822&channel=release&force=1
AUS:SVC Checker:onLoad - request completed downloading document
AUS:SVC Checker:getUpdateURL - update URL: https://aus.palemoon.org/?application=palemoon&version=27.7.0&arch=WINNT_x86_64-msvc&buildid=20180113091822&channel=release&force=1
AUS:SVC Checker:onLoad - number of updates available: 1
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - testing write access C:\Users\mememe\AppData\Local\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\palemoon\update.test
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - windowsVersion = 10.0
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - on Vista, userCanElevate: false
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - testing write access C:\esm\palemoon64_27.7.0\update.test
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - able to apply updates
AUS:SVC UpdateService:removeDownloadListener - no downloader!
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - testing write access C:\Users\mememe\AppData\Local\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\palemoon\update.test

AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - testing write access C:\esm\palemoon64_27.7.0\update.test
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - able to apply updates
AUS:UI gUpdates:onLoad - setting current page to startpage updatesfoundbasic

When it's time for the next update, I'll know what to look for.
Thank you again!

Also, this is the .zip extraction, into a chosen directory. Is the updater expected to work here? Maybe not?

edit: rewrote the 2 posts into one, as the first post was pointless.
