Address bar has incorrect text if keyword.enabled is "false".

Unread post by Pallid Planetoid » 2018-03-17, 22:22

I use the pref "keyword.enabled" (in about:config) set to (non-default) "false" to only allow valid URL addresses to be entered in the address bar (no search allowed).

On new tabs I get the following text in the address bar: "Search or enter address". This is incorrect if above pref is set to "false" since "Search" is not allowed -- can this be changed to either blank or preferably "Enter address" (which would be appropriate under the circumstances)?

Note: On new tabs I load "chrome://speeddial/content/speeddial.xul" (Speed Dial, which is my preference for new tabs) in the new tab via the "Custom New Tab" extension, if this makes a difference.

Yes, this would be a useful an enhancement as there would be no confusion to those who are starting out with this specific function. Many of my family/friends know the website address or use bookmarks with a keyword. But at first, they were constantly confused by "Search or enter an address." as you should not be able to search in he address bar because keyword.enable was set to false.

But the address bar isn't just for that:
addressbar_settings.png
i.e. if the pref "keyword.enabled" = "false"

It's autocomplete feature but I think that ("search") is right in this case.

Yeah, but I've got ALL of that stuff disabled, and it still says "Search or enter address"! :|

Patches welcome if it really bothers you THAT much that you think it requires a special corner case string (our l10n people will not thank you)

Should be fixed with that issue.

It doesn't.
That's why I included the "Nautral" emoji at the end. :)
