APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
I use Pale Moon Portable. Today I updated to the latest version 27.8.0 (32-bit) of Pale Moon, after I backed up current version 27.7.2 (32-bit) as I usually do. .
I am experiencing this new problem of crashing ONLY when closing Pale Moon - always. I never experienced this problem anytime so far before this current update.

When I began using my backed-up earlier version of 27.7.2, the problem doesn't occur. So I am using the earlier version.
For testing purposes, when I use the updated version 27.8.0, the problem appears again.
Nothing else has changed - no updating of or enabling/disabling of any addon, etc.
Developers may kindly wish to look into this.
Thanks.

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
Try to deactivate hardware acceleration in the Pale Moon settings.
Also, install that add-on here https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/pm-commander/ - and take a look that in the add-on's settings only following checkboxes in the section graphics-rendering are activated and nothing else:
- Enable Direct 2d acceleration
- use Direct 2D 1.1 when available
At least that test would be a good starting point

Thank you for posting the information. Just fyi, it may be a bit of a wait before someone knowledgeable looks at it (I don't have the knowledge to do it.)

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
And that is the reason why it is better to start with the simple suggestions first, that technical details are quite specific and it always needs some time until someone is - theoretically able - to help and solveMartin333 wrote:@ Sajadi

My suggestions are done in a couple of minutes - and you just have to browse and exit the browser to see if it works I can assure you that you can do ho harm if you deactivate hardware acceleration and that checkboxes.
In many cases it is the hardware acceleration which can lead to browser or system crashes - in some cases.

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
Looks like it's a memory allocation issue in a plugin.
Not sure what business google has installing a plugin in other browsers for their update services -- I'd disable that first thing.
Sajadi: without knowing more about it blindly offering random things to try is generally not helpful. Nothing is pointing at a HWA issue here (although a 2015 video driver really does need to be updated, but that aside)

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
Sure, to pin-point the issue at once at it's very core is of course the more recommended solution, but somewhere you have to start, even if perhaps a suggestion does in the end not lead to a success. Therefor it is called suggestion and not solutionMoonchild wrote:Sajadi: without knowing more about it blindly offering random things to try is generally not helpful. Anyway, i have seen in dozens of cases (friends, relatives) that hardware acceleration deactivation can help in many cases, and as i am zero expert in analyzing crash reports, i saw this worth suggesting - no offense meant

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
Hi,
I had a same issue with error during closing after upgrade to 27.8.0 (64-bit) version for Windows. It seems that in my case the update of the ad-dons has helped.
Especially for greasemonkey.

@Sajadi :
The 'Use hardware accleration when available' option was already un-ticked under Preferences-->Advanced-->General. Hence I decided to give it a next chance. Now that Moonchild has said there is no HWA issue, I think I will pass up your suggestion.
@t_e_o_m_o :
Thanks for the suggestion. Initially I thought about that too and searched for any updates to my installed extensions, and found none.
So, most probably, this situation may continue until the particular extension is updated.

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
I'm getting the same thing since the update. I have always had hardware acceleration off and I selected those video options in Pale Moon Commander. I found it was the add-on Greasemonkey. This was never the case before prior to this update. What has changed and why is PM crashing now do to an add-on I use? Since I can't use Webextensions, what do I use now? I'm using Greasemonkey version 1.15.1.

@Sajadi: see, your suggestion has people now looking in the wrong place first.
Okay, of GreaseMonkey is an issue, can people who have solved it please indicate which version of GM is problematic and which version is not? Then I can make this a soft blocker in our blocklist with the instruction to update.

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
My previous version of GreaseMonkey was quite outdated, i do not remember correctly but for sure 1.1x.Moonchild wrote: Okay, of GreaseMonkey is an issue, can people who have solved it please indicate which version of GM is problematic and which version is not? The problem stopped occur after update to latest stable version 3.30 of Greasemonkey for Pale Moon.

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
I can confirm an old version of GreaseMonkey was causing the crash after I updated to Pale Moon 27.8.0.Moonchild wrote:@Sajadi: see, your suggestion has people now looking in the wrong place first.

I was using GreaseMonkey 1.15-signed. Just like the poster right above me I updated to the current GM for Pale Moon 3.30 and that stopped the crashing.
I too would like to know what in this update caused GreaseMonkey 1.15 to crash Pale Moon on exiting? What changed? I still have 1.15-signed installed but disabled so if you need me to generate some log files to help find out let me know.
I mean, I'm glad that I updated to a more up to date version of GreaseMonkey - I had no idea 3.30 was available for Pale Moon, so I guess it's a good thing, but you know as users we all hate it when something that used to work stops working when there were no clear changes as a user to the front end that caused it. I'm assuming there were some changes made in the back end that's causing this?

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
I've had this issue too, with GM 1.15.1-signed. Changing to the linked PM-specific version seems to have solved the issue.
Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
After reading the many posts above regarding Greasemonkey, I installed the 'stable version 3.30 of Greasemonkey for Pale Moon' - linked earlier - in my latest (currently unused) version 27.8.0 (32-bit) of Pale Moon just to see its effect.
I still find that Pale Moon crashes.
(If anybody needs, I can produce the crash reports, etc. as above, but I think it may not make a difference, because, as Moonchild has observed, it could be a memory allocation issue in another plugin I use.)
Interestingly, I tried to restart Pale Moon in safe mode (under Help menu), but while it shows the 'Pale Moon web browser has stopped working' and 'Plugin Container for PaleMoon has stopped working' messages, Pale Moon DOES NOT re-start either in Safe Mode or in Normal Mode. When I click the executable file, it just starts in the normal mode, not in the safe mode. This has been tested several times.

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
I see these crashes too, one or two seconds after closing PM with Exit or X. Restart doesn't work. PM 27.8.0 desktop version, Win 7-32. I don't have Grease Monkey and the Google plugin is always disabled. Couldn't generate an actual log with AppCrash View yet (full of old crashes, it's Refresh doesn't seem to work for me).

Re: APPCRASH - mozglue.dll
Okay, so, after doing a run with debugger attached it looks like it's actually a shutdown issue in NSS. I'll have to bugreport this upstream.
